I would go with the PX4 if I had to choose from your options.

But with a $500 budget I would either save a bit more and get a Glock or find one used in the marketplace (there are a lot).

If you can save more around the $600 range, I'd go with a CZ. CZ was my first handgun purchase

My first hand gun was a Ruger P95... if it would have been a CZ 75 Compact PCR, I would have been a lot happier. A lot of gun for the price. So is a regular $500 75 polycoat or CZ40B if you can find one.

Really appreciated the advice folks, when I went into the FLGS, I was leaning towards the Storm, but talking it over with the clerk, and thinking about the single trigger pull advice here, I ended up going with a 4" XD9, helped that they were offering 5 magazines with it, but it just felt great in hand. Thank you all who put your two cents in. Have to say, I think it speaks very well of Turners that the clerk recommended a less expensive option, that I hadn't even mentioned.

Potential alternate plan : pick up a Ruger 10/22 at half your budget, keep the enjoyable fun going while improving your overall technique, and rent a different handgun to go along side it every time you go to the range....all the while keeping an eye out for a good deal/sale.

No matter where this hobby takes you; chances are a 10/22 stays in the collection.

Much appreciated, actually bought a ruger 22 takedown a little over a year ago, though I didn't have occasion to shoot it for quite a while. I can't imagine ever getting rid of it. Were I not so broke, it would tempt me awfully to get a takedown carbine to go with it.

the XD9 service model with 4" barrel is a proven work horse, reliable design

they sell them like hot cakes, since they are so reasonably priced and well made, it's one of the best bargain priced pistols on the roster

the free extra magazines and accessories with a new SA XD9 is one of the best deals Ive seen.

The xd Service is a good gun. I've owned both the .40 and 9mm. Surprisingly they gave me less problems than my cz75b and Glock 26.
