If you are limiting your choices to those 2 only, the Beretta hands down.
You may consider expanding your horizons, go to your local gun range and rent a few different handguns, see which one fits you and your budget the best.

Keep renting or shooting guns of friends until you find one that works for you.

What suits one person in terms of comfort and ergonomics may not suit another, so I would caution you against making a selection based upon what you read or what others enjoy shooting.

Well, two points.

If you think this is your "only" handgun, rent more, shoot more, to find what fits you, you enjoy shooting, and can reasonably hit what you aim at (my apologize for bad "gramma"). DA/SA take practice to feel proficient (especially in DA).

If you think this will lead to more purchases in the future (most likely), then get what appeals to you now. Others will call your name and you will submit to them.

For me, it was DA/SA at first, a Sig SP2022. Now have Berettas, Walthers, S&Ws, HKs, Rugers, etc. It never ends unless my register say so, even then I override it.

OP a basic, common stable of firearms should include a popular 9mm full-size HG. Glock 17 or 19 Beretta 92, etc. Get something time-proven and popular. The PX4 qualifies IMHO.

If your just getting into shooting and don’t have a lot of disposable cash, stay away from .380, it’s an expensive round compared to 9mm.

I’d expand my search, I would nor buy either of those guns.

Like previously said, limiting yourself to those two is not good. Consider shooting a few different guns until you find something you like and shoot well. I sold my PX4 Storm and did not like it. The XD-9 of Glock 17, or 19 would be great first guns just like suggested above. Good Luck.

For a first time gun owner, I always advise to choose the caliber you are going to stock up on first, THEN the gun. Between a .380 and 9mm, the 9 wins in both performance AND cost, so the PX4 wins by default.

As others said, 9 mm is a better choice economically for first pistol. if you must have DA/SA, then I guess go Beretta.

However, as Big Pimping points out, you may want to check out Glock - the 19 is similar barrel length to the Beretta. I don't own anything plastic, but for a first pistol the G19 is pretty darn good in the price range you mention.

380 ammo cost the same as 45acp.....if you want to shoot often, get something 9mm and can run different bullet weights for the job.

Also look at Sig 2022, DA/SA and same price as PX4.
