Hi-Point stuff is all about form following function. I used to crap on them, but then was given a chance to shoot a couple of the pistols quite a bit. Loved shooting them. Reliable, accurate and very little felt recoil. (9mm) Bulky as hell, but a great 2nd amendment option for cheap. Anybody can afford one and still feel good about it. Their warranty center has very generous guidelines. If anything is wrong with your pistol/rifle they just fix it. Other companies could learn from them.

If that is still available, buy it. It has much more than you need, but at half the price of what I paid to convert mine.
Watch several online videos to see how to change it. It's very easy as I recall, but don't rush it.
Mine works perfectly. Yours likely will too.

Who really cares? It's a basic cheap gun. If you buy a hipoint you dont really care if it breaks or gets stolen. Its designed so that field stripping is unnecessary. Just wash it down with a hose when you want to clean it, lubing is optional.

If something goes wrong does the buyer pay for shipping both ways or do they give you a prepaid shipping label? shipping a firearm can get expensive for a low value gun like the HP

It would probably be more feasable to just turn it in at a gun buy back for a gift certificate to buy some groceries and beer and then go buy another one. Thats probably why hipoint has such a generous warranty policy, and they probably know most hipoint "owners" are prohibited people as well so they probably arent going to be sending it in for service.

I'm guessing they're ugly because it's expensive to make an attractive-looking blowback-operated pistol. And I'm guessing they're blowback-operated because for some reason it's cheaper to make a quality blowback-operated pistol than it is to make a quality recoil-operated pistol.

Hi-Point pistols were designed to be the best possible balance of quality to cost. Aesthetics were an afterthought (if they were even a thought, at all). I guess they figure that if anyone really cares how their pistol looks, there are plenty of more attractive (and subsequently more expensive) options already available by other makers.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

A lot. It'll outlast plenty of other more expensive guns. It will just be heavy and ugly while doing it.

I use mine when introducing new shooters to the differences between hi cost and inexpensive firearms, with a demo that once the bullet leaves the muzzle, it matters not what launched it.
                      Makes for interesting conversations.

                        HI POINT pistol:

Life Expectancy (yours) = 1-10 mintes after first drawn in self defense.
Service = Theme to be based upon the deceased expressed wishes.

There will always be people that will hate on the Hi Point USA made firearm.

I place it between two Nighthawks so it doesn't feel left out.
