    Should I trade up/down/sideways?

Hi all. I own an old SW Model 59.

It's perfectly serviceable but about as accurate as a handful of thrown gravel, so it's not really that fun to shoot... so I never do. It just fulfills a just in case "dammit I wish I had a handgun" role right now.

Thought occurred to me to try to sell it (I guess it would have to be out of state) and get something more accurate but is there any market for something like that? Would anyone want to buy an old inaccurate POS like this?

There's always a market for long discontinued, first gen S&W autos.

Why does it have to be out of state?

        Something something roster something.

I am more of a rifle guy so I don't pay much attention to the handgun laws here. I've been assuming that this thing is so old the only way to transfer it is intra-familial, which is how I ended up with it.

Like I said roster roster something roster.

You can sell it in California but you have to physically meet the buyer at an FFL, or put it up for consignment at an FFL. If a buyer was roster exempt you could ship it to his FFL. As far as I know it isn’t 50 years old, but if it was it would be exempt from roster restrictions.

Thanks. Had no idea (obviously). Thought I was stuck with this thing forever in terms of selling in-state.

Let me start poking around for potential replacements and then revisit. Based on comparable Gunbroker pricing I don't have high hopes that this thing will fetch much of a price. Will have to decide what I want to spend $$ on, replacement pistol, a Larue Stealth bbl, or ammo. I don't have unlimited funds unfortunately.

You be surprised what old S&W semis fetch here. Compare it to the CG market place price and go from there.

If you are patient you could get $550 for it.

The S&W 59 was popular with Law Enforcement in the late 1970s. Somebody might like it for nostalgic reasons. I had two back then but I would trade it for a Glock 17 or a Beretta M9.

After the 59 was out you couldn't give a 39 away.

It doesn't need to be sold out of state. PPT are roster exempt.

                          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.
