    Glock 23 9mm conversion

Now that I have standard capacity magazines I'm drinking the 9mm koolaid. I've got a Gen 4 Glock 23, what is a great conversion barrel? I'm not too concerned with price.

Will I need a spring kit? Or is the Gen 4 captured recoil spring gtg with 9mm instead of .40?

    I have a Lone Wolf and Gen 3 G23.

All I’ve done is change the barrel, not even the magazine was changed.

I had 1 jam in 500 rounds and I should have put a drop of oil in the slide. I completely blame me and not the parts.

You may want to change the ejector housing to the 9mm version as well. Keep in mind you'll want the gen 4 9mm version. Random internet pic:

So um... moon labia or something.

Glocks are too cheap to tinker with conversions.

Recoil springs are based on cartridge, extractors and ejectors can be slightly off, etc. Too much hassle for something that simple.

I've had a G27 (.40) that I converted 5 years ago with only a Lonewolf conversion barrel and 9mm mags.

I have shot exactly 2,635 rds of 9mm on it. (not counting 2,080 rounds of .40).

Here is my failure record when using the 9mm barrel and reasons:

          9 Oct 2014 - 1 FTF. Probable reason: using the .40 mag
4 Nov 2014 - Double feed. Probable reason: using the .40 mag
17 Dec 2016 - Trigger Pin broke in half (during match)
14 Feb 2017 - Light Primer Strike - ammo (reloads)
20 May 2017 - Squib Round (during match) - ammo, low gunpowder.
5 July 2017 - Light Primer Strike - ammo (Triune Defense)
3 Jan 2018 - Front Sight came loose

In 2,635 rounds of 9mm as you can see above, none of it had anything to do with the barrel.

It is mostly ammo or using the .40 mag... and I used the .40 mag pretty often.

It was reliable 99.73% of the time in 9mm barrel.

When using the .40 and just about everything stock, it was reliable 99.71% of the time in 2,080 rounds.

Based on my experience, all one would need to convert to 9mm and have about the same reliability as stock is a Lonewolf Barrel and 9mm mags. That is how it is for a Glock Subcompact Gen 3. Don't know how it would be for a compact Gen 4. I'm guessing just go for it.

          .

I have a Gen3 G22 with a Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrel. It has been 100% reliable through about 1000 rounds of 9mm.

The conversion barrel was about $115, IIRC. That, and 9mm magazines, were the only change. I am very impressed with the modularity of the Glock platform. To my feel, a .40cal Glock with a 9mm conversion barrel shoots better than a native 9mm like the G17. Perhaps that's illusory, but it does seem like the conversion barrel has a heavier profile than a normal G17 barrel.

Not illusory, but a fact. The OD of the 9mm coversion barrel is the same as the OD of the .40 /10mm barrel. However, since the ID is smaller for the 9mm than it is for the 10, the wall thickness of the 9mm is greater than that of the 10mm.

Are the lone wolf 9mm barrels plug and play or is there any fitting required?

I understand they just drop in, and swap mags.

How about the G22 I purchased in Dec. 1994 at the Grant boys.
($529 on sale, with "one" 15 rnd mag as they kept the 2nd to scalp at the gun show for $125.00. This mag deal has been going on for a long time now....)
Does anyone know in the 9mm conv barrels said to fit gen 3 and 4 fit older gen 2 guns? Thanks...

I don't know, some claim no issues with just a barrel swap. My personal experience was constant jams. Made the glock unreliable. This was using a lone wolf conversion barrel and a 9mm mag. I ended up getting a lake storm barrel, 9mm ejector and extractor and that solved the issue. I pretty much converted the 40 to a 9mm. Your experience might be different but I tried 2 lone wolf barrels before returning it and getting a lake storm conversion barrel. I should have just swapped slides.....this was.with factory new ammo too.

Usually, you only need a conversion barrel and a 9mm mag.

However, some parts might be off and not work well then you may want to change to 9mm part(s) to make it more reliable.

I did this with many glocks over the years.

I have a G35 with LW 40-9 and had one for my G23. The LW barrels have very tight chambers resulting in not so stellar reliability with reloads using standard dies. I reamed the chamber with a standard 9mm Para specs and used small base resizing die. Eliminated all those jams caused by oversized web.
