    Glock 17 Gen1 experience

I picked up this G17 Gen 1 with the idea that I could actually shoot and enjoy it despite being a bit of a rare piece.

I sent the pistol back to Glock to make the warranty upgrades ( I know...blasphemy) They installed fixed night sights and about 27 internal parts changed (All internal parts were changed for FREE). The slide is also refinished.

The grip feels like a single stack or at least feels significantly thinner than my G35 Gen3. With the upgraded sights I can shoot it almost as good as I did my Nighthawk 1911. In fact my bad experience with custom 1911's (Nighthawk, Kimber, Colt etc.) pushed me further into the Glocks. I can write a novel about those mostly negative experiences. Another cool thing about these Gen 1 Glocks is the simple engineering in the box and assessors. Details like when I put the lock cable through the box or how the box fits the extra magazines, cleaning rod, and ammo. Heck even the manual reminds you this Glock has less parts.

I enjoy this Gen1 more than other Generations. Despite how different it feels in hand it also does not jam, is simple and tool free to take apart, does not rust easily and are about the easiest gun to show newbies on.

The best part about it is that most people at the range never know what I have or have ever seen a Gen 1 in person. Much like my other gear it just looks very tool like and does its job as perfect as can be while nobody ever understands why I love it so much.

How bad was the original finish on the gun because the older finishes are better than what they have today imo.

The Gen1 Glocks had very poor finishes that look faded and I think they did not upgrade to better finishing untill Gen 3's came out.

        Wow nice Gen 1!
I never have seen one in person yet. I regrettably sold a very new in box G17 Gen 2 few years ago.

Are Gen 1 Glocks really collectible? I have two, the view of OP's original box makes me sad because the replacement boxes they gave me suck in comparison.

Never thought people would get sentimental over a Glock.

I hope Glock knives won't become collectible or the future owner of mine will get mad at me for weeding with it.

I have been shooting for a long time and 15yrs ago several times a week and never saw a single Gen 1 until I made this purchase.

I need me a Glock Knife for my collection now and maybe if they become discontinued at some point I am sure they would rise in value too.

Someone stole my Gen1. I want it back.

Nice pistol and even nicer explorer. I wouldn't mind a gen 1, I had a gen2 but I sold it to a buddy who wanted it.

                  Thanks!

funny how they are similar in that they are simple and understated. I have been wearing an Explorer 1 (36mm) for 4yrs now and nobody has ever noticed what it is.

Gen 2 are on my radar now. I specifically want a Gen 2 G19.

I can't believe I never before noticed that there are 17 spaces for 9mm rounds in the box.

Collectible glock? Isn't that an oxymoron???
