    Selected from the herd...

Thanks to all for the nice comments. Have quite the herd of 3Gs as I've been shooting and collecting 3Gs...well since 3Gs were introduced. Many examples of PC, TSW and 4 Digit models.

Any wanting to date/inquire about their 3G try:
    > Call S&W Customer Service with you Serial #. They will tell you the month and year of manufacture.
    > Get the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" the Bible.
    > Smith-WessonForum.com; join and post in the Semi-auto Forum. Lots of serious knowledgeable members there to chime in on all matters 3Gs.

My 6906 pictured has close to 8-10K rds thru (my best guess-it's been 30 years) w/o hiccup period. My OG 1996 PC Shorty 45 probably 6K thru. Others less. Who knows, I've enjoyed shooting many and many don't see the light of day...

    Plastic-Striker...no beauty-craftsmanship there...they have a place in the market-use for...however...

I can relate to that. My 5906, which I had since early 90s have been trouble free for many, many rounds, maybe not as much as yours, but probably up to 6K. My 6906 that I acquired used is in superb condition probably less than 500 rounds through the gun. When I do shoot both 5906 and 6906 at the range I always have peopl like you asking if I want to sell them.

I regret not buying PPC 5906 and the PC TSW when they were still attainable.

Bought my 6906 new and still love the way it fits my hand. Finally found some extra 'adjusted' magazines to meet the 10rd requirement...

I carried these all as duty guns at some point in my career.

              639 2nd Gen

              Ha SVT-40; a 639...Here's my OG 1986 639. Shot and loved...until it's retirement several years ago.

Taught "everybody" how to shoot on it.

2nd Gen Single Stack Stainless Goodness. Up there with bacon.

I have several 2, 3, 4 digit Smiths. My pride and joy that doesn't get any range time is a 4505 with adjustable sights.
                        Great thread by the way.

Love 3rd gens. My favorite is the 4506, mines upgraded to shoot 45 super, makes 10mm look like a biaatch.
WTB 3rd Gen SW also looking for a 22 pistol with 6" bbl or longer

1994 Performance Center SD 356 TSW
                            1 of 119
                            Very, very "Rare" 3G
(Hate to use that word as it's been ruined by a lot of sellers selling cooked Steaks not firearms.)

Plus a boatload of Federal Gold Medal 356 TSW 147G Match and JHP to go with. Check out the Roy letter for the jest of it..."The cartridge was developed for S&W Team Capt Roy Jinks, by Bill Kramer at Federal Cartridge Co,"

                            Noice!
