C.G., thanks for the fix...much appreciated.

      Ammo. .40. 10mm
Federal Premium Hydroshock JHP 1016fps. 1021fps
Fed, American Eagle FMJ 1029fps. 1047fps
      Rem. G&W box. FMJ 959fps. 1122fps

10-round strings. I tossed highs and lows and one of any back to back duplicates because that's usually a chrono error.

I haven't done a 9mm vs. .357 Sig, yet, but the Sig is just a fast 9mm. I honestly don't have a 9mm comparable to my current .357 Sig, so I'll run out and get one and get them on the chrono as soon as I'm over this helluva' cold I'm fighting right now.

Better for what? Both calibers have pluses & minuses as do others. I think either caliber would do fine as a home defense or CCW gun. The important thing, in my opinion, would be your bullet placement ability in a stressful situation

You know, back in the 1960s, 70s and 80s it was always arguments (sometimes quite heated) about .45 ACP vs. 9mm Luger. The gun rags were always featuring comparisons and testing to help fuel the arguments (and revenue). Over the past few years it seems the .45 and 9mm crowds have join together (some might say, "pile on") to attack and denigrate the .40 S&W. So, I guess because it has brought two warring factions together, we should call the .40 S&W "The Great Peacemaker."

Heck, I just like owning and shooting pistols, 9mm Makarov, 9mm Luger, 357 Sig, .40 S&W, 10mm Auto, and .45 ACP. They're all fun to shoot and interesting in their own right.

They are about the same. Take a look at the CA roster. Sort by caliber. Buy all of those.

                    Which is better, 9mm or .40 S&W?

Whichever one you have in your hand when you need it.

The answer is, obviously, .45 auto.
