    Sig VS Beretta

    Lookin at these two:
    Sig P226 9mm
    Beretta Storm 9mm
Pro's, con's, price, availability, durability, reliability
My thoughts, I have had a Centurion for about 15 years so the familiarity of the Storm ergonomics would come into play and while 9mm may not be the most powerful and hard hitting round it is the most plentiful and inexpensive to shoot.

I'm sure the storm is the cheaper of the two in terms of cost, but get the Sig. It's worth it!

The Sig will have better accuracy, reliability, and (in my opinion) pointability.

The Beretta will be a little less in all departments, but with a lower cost. I am not a fan of the rotating action, and ended up selling my Beretta (first handgun) when I happened upon the Sig P226.

Go to a store and figure out which one fits you best, and which trigger you like better, and buy it. If the Sig fits and feels better, then it's worth the extra dosh. If it doesn't, then be happy knowing that you can buy some extra ammo by buying the Beretta instead.

One other consideration - check out the CZ SP-01 and 75B. They are also excellent first-pistols, and, with a little work, can be made to be awesome shooters. I'd recommend the CZ over the Beretta.

I had never sold a firearm until I purchased my first 226 in March 1984...(for $430)

Same here. Back in 1984 when I bought my first 226, I liked it so much better than my Beretta 92SB I pretty much immediately sold the 92SB... And I do not sell many firearms. I had no problems with the Beretta but at least to me, the ergonomics of the 226 are far superior. YMMV, but I doubt it. The Beretta's grip feels like a 2x4. I do still prefer the earlier stamped slide 226's over the milled stainless slide ones... I would look for a clean early one. I would have posted a few minutes earlier but I was looking through my file of invoices. Memory lane... It may not seem so now but back in 1984 $430 was a pretty good amount of money.

I own sigs, but I have shot my friend's 92 and Centurion pleny of times. I almost bit, and bought a Beretta myself - because I have smallish hands and yet the bulky grip of the Beretta didn't bother me. Then I realized, I was always shooting it in single action, and never dropped the hammer when practicing. When shooting it in double action, I realized it was way too big for my hands.

For whatever reason, in single action, I could shoot the Beretta and group the shots as well occasionally better than my Sig. It's the usual line: find what you shoot most comfortably with.

I've owned both, and got rid of the Beretta. A few things to note. Both are ridiculously accurate. Both have their cult groups. Both have certain periods which are made better than the other.

Looking at a DA/SA SIG and Beretta, the SIG wins with regards to the trigger. The double action stroke on a SIG is shorter, and usually lighter. A d-spring swap on the Beretta makes the DA pull noticeably lighter, but the long, and still heavy stroke makes it difficult to master. Single action, the SIG also wins. It has a lot less creep, which I've noticed all stock Berettas has a pretty mushy break. Both guns have long resets, both have a lot of slack in single action, and both triggers, overall kinda suck.

Many state that the Beretta 92FS is a large gun for being a 9mm. The P226 is slightly shorter, but both are comparable. Both alloy framed guns make it easy to point, and the gun's shootability is quite fantastic. I prefer the decocking lever on the SIG's as opposed to the frame mounted (backwards) decocker/safety of the 92FS. The sights on the 92FS, in my opinion sucks also. Whoever thought to put red dots on an INOX model needs to be dragged behind a truck. The bar dot sight is quicker, and the sights provide a crisper sight picture.

For the most part the American made P226s and 92FSs are good guns. They run. Fit and finish should be inspected prior to buying. I don't like the polymer coated controls of the Berettas. The slanted dustcover (recently reverted back to straight) is an small eyesore. The P226s all come railed. Good job SIG, you've made all the non-railed holsters useless. Some SIGs rattle more than others. The warning signs on both the Beretta and SIGs are a small PITA. Both of the American made guns take a back seat to their European counterparts. The German made SIGs are usually held in higher regard. Same goes with the Italian made Berettas.

....and.... I just looked at the OP and realized you were comparing the Storm to a P226. Dammit. In that case, get the P226.

duh! I did the same as well...strike my post above as well! I haven't shot the Storm. With regards with my 226, spend the extra money..you only cry once when you buy quality!

(j/k..not saying that Beretta is poor quality)

I have a 226, my buddy has a Beretta. We both shoot the Sig better.

I've never had a malfunction of any kind....after thousands of rounds fired....ever. My buddy's Beretta has had multiple malfunctions but I don't think he takes care of them as well as I do my baby.
