Anyone Try Surefire WeaponsLight

Has anyone tried the Streamlight TLR-1? Half the cost and seems to get decent reviews.

I have one and I love mine.

I looked at the surefire one but the price seems a bit high for me.

you can get 2 tlr 1 for the price of a surefire x300.

right now, lapolicegear has it for 95 dollars.

Iv'e been wanting the x300 since before it came out but the I just cant pull the trigger on that price. The price on the Streamlight is enticing.

There are alternatives.....

I've used Surefire/Laser Devices products for 20 years now; back in the day they were the only game in town for weapons lights and small, high performance handhelds. They pretty much dominated the market until recently but still have an unmatched product line. Their customer service as others have mentioned is TOP NOTCH. Does that warrant their ridiculously high prices? In my opinion, NO. I still own half a dozen of their weapons lights but I have found equivalent products for much more reasonable prices with Streamlight/Insight. I will support the new guys so that they can provide competition to the "800 lb gorilla" and bring us good products for better prices.

I recently picked up a Streamlight TLR-1 for $80 shipped from Ombexpress. It is IMO every bit as good as any equivalent Surefire dedicated/weapons light at one third the price. I don't buy products for the name; I'm only interested in the performance a product provides me at a reasonable price (read: value). I'd highly recommend giving the Streamlight TLR-1 a try.

depends on the weapon you want to use it on. surefire = F**king AWESOME...the x300 is a great light for a pistol.

for a rifle i just recently got the 6P LED Defender for my rifle


with a remote switch and picatinny rail flip open mount.

the 6P is great cuz the battery lasts 11 hours and is bright as heck

The SF 6PL is a great light, but Surefire's battery life specs on the 6P are a little misleading - unusual for them, but they're slowly adapting.

The 11 hours is for "useful runtime", which they define as 1 lumen, which is useful for reading maps in darkness. The 6PLED puts out tactical light for about 3 hours, then drops steeply to 20 lumens and continues down for the next 8 hours.

i have two x300s.

i had one streamlight tlr-1.

i think the spot is better with the x300 although the spill is what i would call "softer." this may be what leads to to say that the tlr-1 is "brighter."

the color of the light is different between the two also, i was surprised to find that the surefire is more blue.

the surefire's ergonomics are superior. it's absolutely ambidextrous (this is important to me because i'm left handed). up and down is constant on for both sides of the light. press the flippy switch and you get momentary on. that said the surefire's constant on switches are a little stiff. the streamlight's flippy switch is much easier to actuate (but it has no push feature).

the streamlight's package is wider in every dimension, the surefire is longer. the surefire seems like it was made for mounting at 12 o clock on a rifle, it's not that noticeable in the iron sight picture (streamlight is noticeable, does not block the front post entirely, but is noticeable as in it's in the front post picture).

when talking about ambidexterity for mounting at 12 o clock on a rifle, the streamlight wasn't hard for me (left hander) to actuate momentary on despite what i thought before i tried it. it was easy to reach over the rail to the momentary on side. it would only get easier for a right hander as the momentary on is on the left side (when the light is mounted upside down at 12 o clock). i did get the feeling i could bump the streamlight into constant on accidentally.

to sum it all up, my streamlight died on me. very unexpectedly. it worked one day and then the next day it stopped. gave me quite a scare. streamlight refurbed it very quickly. then i put it on ebay and bought two x300s.

Which holster do you guys use with say a Glock 19 with the X300?

I have a Bladetech that works just fine, I had it built for a Glock 17 with X300 and it fits either G17 or G19 (the retention in the holster comes from the light not the gun).

Another nice option are the Raven holsters.

I also have an M3X; good light but I'd recommend the TLR-1 at the same price. It's much brighter and the LED bulb practically lasts a lifetime. You can get the TLR-1 for $99 shipped including 12 batteries. Free shipping is good through this friday.

im thinking about picking up the X300 for the 1911 i have on dros right now. But it is tempting to pick up the TLR-1 for half the cost.

I have both, well the X200 and TLR C4. I prefer the Surefire hands down, but if money is the issue the TLR will serve you well.
