It's soaking in Kroil. If that doesn't work out comes the Dremel.
Did your gun come from LAPD Gun Club? Did it have the orange order form with it?

      No idea.

Well, a couple days soaking in Kroil did the trick.

No joy getting the new ones in. I DO care if I destroy those.

Guess I'll let a pro have a go. It's only money.

          Received this from Trijicon today

          Good afternoon,
          *
Thank you for your inquiry and continued patronage. We can service almost all our sights as long as our tritium lamps installed in the sights. They will have an inspection completed before warranty status is made known; we cannot replace non-Trijicon installed tritium or rear horizontal bar sights. If it is deemed non warranty/out of warranty, the re-lamping is at a cost of*$19 per lamp*($57 for a 3-dot system) and we must do this in the factory. As stated before we will do an internal inspection first to determine warranty vs. non-warranty and then if needed get approval/payment.

                bako88fan:

It seems you have a receipt from the LAPD Pistol and Revolver Club for your 4506-1. I'm curious what's the date on that receipt. Here is a photo of my 4506-1 and a portion of the factory letter on the Special Order Los Angeles Police pistol. It's the only 3rd Gen auto I've run across with factory ADJUSTABLE Night Sights. I've also provided a photo of my factory letter regarding the pistol.

I don't have a receipt or a letter but I do have the flyer that came with the gun. Also, the label on the side of the plastic case that the pistol came with matches the serial on the gun. Item #108271 was on that label. That number doesn't correspond to the flyer but it may have something to do with sights.

I've seen on S&W Forums that I could send my info to the historian and get the letter. I may do that just for gits and shiggles.

My 4506 is a no-dash, so I am no help either. I am stuck with standard fixed sights, and the hooked trigger guard. Shoots awesome though..

Thanks for the posted information on your pistol. It appears that your pistol did come from the LAPD club. The reason I asked was to find out the date. It appears that your pistol was produced/shipped in around fall of 1998.

My 4506-1 was apparently part of a Special Order placed shortly after LAPD authorized .45 automatics for regular officers in the wake of the North Hollywood shootout, which occurred on February 28, 1997. Prior to the shootout only SWAT members were authorized .45 autos. (Read about the shootout here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Hollywood_shootout)

According to former LAPD officers with whom I've spoken, the rank and file officers had been asking that they be authorized to carry .45 autos for quite awhile prior to the shoot out. So, when the " you know what" hit the fan, the brass gave in. Given the pent up demand, it appears that many officers rushed to the club to order the newly authorized 4506, so the club put in some special orders to S&W.

Here is the end label on the box of my 4506-1.

Sorry, the card is long gone. I ordered them from Trijicon & had a local 'smith do the work. The mag disconnect plunger is under the rear sight. I had the 'smith leave it out.

                            I believe it was these.
