TRP Operator grip is a pain!

So when I shoot, I shoot with a death grip. I shoot a lot of offhand bullseye, but I do all kinds of shooting. I typicly only shoot bulseye with my 1911s, as I shoot my glock for multi gun/uspsa. But when Im shooting bulls eye or offhand with my operator MAN it kill my hand. The grip serration is sooooo aggressive I have to modify my grip and playing at 25,50,75,100 for groups and score, makes grip REALLY important.

I've been bouncing around the idea for a while on trading it, selling it, having it taken down (gunsmith) or just putting a pachmayr grip.

Really? I love it. I'd go the gunsmith route

Go to the gym. Build up callouses on your hands.

It gets old after a couple hundred rounds but never really bothered me enough to care. Eventually moved on to bigger and better things.

I've heard many times, the suggestion of sanding down the tips.

Sand down the grips or send to a gunsmith to soften them up - Springfield is too aggressive on their grip treatment

            Good advice. ^^

Actually, it is a flaw in production or you can say they are cutting corners to reduce machining time and cost. Believe me, I do metal machining and no machinist worth their salt leaves such sharp corners and edges on finished work.

Most every Springfield I have seen (except Pro model) have sharp and unfinished edges, serrations, plus uncomfortable and unnecessarily sharp checkering that even goes on the Pro model.
Look at the back of slide on your springfields. The extractor and ejector are never flush with the back of the slide and the slide itself is rarely if ever flush with the frame. Cheap finish.

Checkering should never be cut to razor sharp tips which is what Springfield does. So, good for you if it does not bother you but if you compare the checkering to a DW, Sig, or any other make, you will see what I mean.

Consider taping over the checkering/serrations using "gaffers" tape.

Certainly consider some of the advice above, but I'd recommend trading it. There are far too many good guns out there to consider dealing with a gun that doesn't make you happy.

That’s the case with most production 1911’s.

I sanded mine....a little goes a long ways. Just a little bit with light sandpaper does the trick.

I have VZ grips on my Gold Cup, they were too aggressive until a quick sanding with 320 grit paper. I had Pachmayr wrap arounds on it for 35 years and needed a change. I like the VZ's.

Are you talking about the grips or the front strap? If you're talking about the grips, jeez louise...just buy some different ones from VZ and quit yer bellyaching! Hahahaha! If you'd like, I've got a pair that I don't use and would be willing to let go for next to nothing. Let me know if you're interested. Or, sand them down a smidgen.

If your talking about the front strap, use a softer brass or aluminium hammer and try to soften the tips just a smidgen. I wouldn't use sandpaper unless it was a stainless gun. I'm assuming you have the full rail, I think those only come in an Armory Kote finish. A VERY cheap option would be to put skateboard tape across the front strap. It works well and wouldn't mess up the appearance too much.

                          Happy shooting and be safe.

I had a TRP and I came to hate it That checkering was meant for gloved hands
My old gunsmith said he regularly got requests to smooth out the Springfield checkering.

Use Pachmayrs. I have them on my Loaded Operator and I love them.
