    Dumb Question

Is there any harm in leaving a pistol holstered in leather. I would think not, but I want to be sure.

I would not put it in the safe for long term storage since leather can hold moisture and body salts.

Short term with properly cleaned firearms not a problem.

My Les Baer lives in a Milt Sparks, even when I'm not carrying. Haven't noticed any issues in 2 years.

Lots of stuff used to tan leather, and they could be hard on metal surfaces of firearms, so I'd suggest storing outside of leather. Wipe down and store in a rack.

As long as you regularly wipe down the exterior and put a light coat of oil on it, it’ll be perfectly fine.

For the past 25+ years my Colt GCNM has lived in its Leather Bianchi holster bedside my bed in a drawer. I probably take it out once or twice a year for a quick lube and wipe down. It's perfectly fine.

You'd think high quality gun leather outfits like Bianchi.... in business forever....

would take that into consideration when making holsters..

My dad'smodel 10 Smith was kept holstered 45 years...In Anaheim and the Norco. Cleaned it occasionally. I have it now and it's rust free.

Some say yes some say no. I had a leather handcuff case that caused my S&W cuffs to rust.....But my Safariland leather pancake holsters have never caused an issue with guns I've carried in them...….So I just don't store guns with blued finishes in leather, like my classic S&W revolvers......Glocks I leave in 24/7.

Don't store long term in a leather holster. Plastic.

I guess that it could depend on the way the leather was processed. As for me, I have a S&W model 27-2 and a Browning Hi-Power that sat in cheap (made in mexico) holsters for the 13 years I was married. Both are still have perfect finishes.

Depends on where you are and the quality of the holster. Most good quality holster's will be treated with silicon or something similar on the inside. A lesser quality holster may not be. Likewise if your near enough to a beach to smell the salt air, make sure to wipe it down regularly.
