Yes, and considering the patchwork of the various state laws and their constant evolution, methods of keeping records (paper, electronic, etc.) C & R issues, and all the other stuff, it truly is a maze.

I don't have any information concerning the entry of early records of long gun transactions.

DOJ has been entering old records as time permits, but its also important to note that older records tend to contain a lot of errors. Those records were originally handwritten, the keyboard entry was done by minimally qualified typists, and there were often no standards for the consistent formatting of entries.

I've been away from the field for five years now. As computer search algorithms become more advanced, you're going to be more likely to see records being returned. For example, if a S/N were entered with a space, or a dash, to indicate a gap between digits in the engraved S/N, an early computer search algorithm would not make the match.

I bought a Luger from a guy who claimed to be a FFL in June 1976, I don't remember how I found the guy, he was advertising somewhere, maybe shotgun news, maybe Times, who knows. I remember driving to this run down trailer park in bad part of L.A. and handing him cash for my Luger, we did a piece of paper where he wrote my info down. That Luger is in the database. I bought a second Luger from him in September of same year, that one is not in the database. So pre-1990 records seem to be very incomplete. My Ruger Old Army is in the database even though its cap&ball and I would have thought should not be, but I bought it from a store in Ventura in 1978 that made me fill out the handgun purchase form.

There should be none - detailed DROS info for long guns was not collected before 2014 so there's nothing to enter.

Some pre-2014 long gun data might be in AFS through VOLREG, LEGR and possibly some other avenues I can't think of just now.

Party to party up here in freedom land!!!

I love living in Idaho where you can sell a gun to a private party with only as much as a local drivers license to make sure they are of age.

I've got several handguns that I purchased in the mid-70s that show up in AFS.
Your right, but if they come to confiscate your guns, you can say you sold it face-to-face cash 1 day after you bought it, thus no longer in your possession..

Or, if you have said firearm in your possession, you did a face to face before said date, thus, not registered to you.

One is NOT required to register pre 1990 pistol acquisitions.
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.
