    XD OWNERS HELP ME DECIDE

im trying to decide on the 4" or 3" barreled model. with the 3" and flush mag my pinky rides on the bottom of the mag, do you find that to be painful, limiting the number of rounds you feel like shooting at the range? I know it comes with extended mags, but Im interested in your expierence with shooting the flush mags with your pinky dangling. and one last thing, the 4" is $399 with 5 mags and the 3" is $459 with 5 mags. can you help thanks

imo if you aint gonna carry it, dont get a compact. If its going on your CCW thats one thing, otherwise I recommend getting a 4" so you can shoot it.

Compact is almost the same as a shield just thicker, many people carry both concealed

I have a XDs 9mm with the 3.3 barrel. It came with one, 7 round, flush mag. I never shoot with it. I'll carry with that mag if I'm wearing dressier clothes that I need a lower print. Other than that, I shoot with and carry the 8 round mags 95% of the time. I also have some of the 9 rounders, which I only use at the range.

FWIW, I carry IWB at 3:30-4:00 and with a un-tucked shirt, the 8 round mags don't print.

What is your purpose for the gun?

Picture of your grip? Hand should be as high as possible. Make sure you're using both hands on the grip.

Not an owner, but my recommendation is to pick the 3 inch for planned CCW. The 4 inch for a range toy. Pinky on the bottom of small guns doesn’t bother me except for perhaps being a bit less accurate with less grip to hold on to. Did you try them out at a range first?

4” is gonna be a lot more useful if you aren’t going to CCW regularly, and not that hard to carry with a good holster. The subcompact is surprisingly shootable, and makes for an okay IWB carry - plus it’s 10 rounds and those pinky extensions make for a solid hold.

As a few folks have mentioned, it depends on your purpose. If you have no purpose to need a sub-compact, then get the longer barrel. I love my sub-compact.

I have large hands and I EDC the XD9 subcompact with the flush mag as primary (for printing). I shoot it just fine at the range. The extended mag is easier to shoot but if you have a strong grip the pinky does not matter.

As others have said, depends on your use. Get the 3" if you plan to ccw it, the 4" for home defense, range toy, etc. Imho you will be more accurate with, and enjoy shooting the 4" service over the 3". As a thought, the service is roughly the same size as a glock 19, which a lot of people carry concealed.

Or do the calguns compromise, get both

Btw, I have a xd l40 service and a glock 27, which is about the same size as the 3" xd
