Check out GunBroker for FN made Hi Powers. They're legal. I saw some in the $450-$550 range. Unfortunately, not all companies who advertise them will sell to CA.
FN made HPs are on the roster.

My $0.02; if you've been wanting a BHP then wait for a BHP. Otherwise you're going to compromise but you will still be wanting a BHP. Some things are worth the wait (and cost).

Well.... you could always get a CZ-SP01 and change the trigger out with a CGW SA trigger... I'm in absolute LOVE with my SPO1 and her SA trigger is SUH-WEET!

My Browning BDM 9mm has a screwdriver slot that allows single or double action, your choice.

Have you thought about the FEG hipowers? They're direct clones from what I recall.

1911s are SA and from my point of view, you can't own too many 1911s.

I have one and it is a great gun. Very nice finish. I did replaces the sear and a couple other parts with real Browning parts and they fit fine. Browning mags work great, too. I also put a Precision Sight adjustable rear sight on mine.

If you find one, it will have to be a PPT transfer since they are not on the roster.

Hipowers are not DA nor are the FEGs.

HK USP, expensive SIG 226, CZ clones like the Springfield P9.

If you haven't shot a Hi-Power, try one before you get all worked up about it. I hate 'em.

1911 9mm should be high on the list.

I've had the opportunity to try quite a few 9mm SAOs.

My favorites are the 9mm 1911s (any good repliable ACCURATE manufacture), SIG X5 P226 in any version, CZ tactical sport, and the P210.

A modified HP is super sweet, but in factory form is an ok shooter in my opinion. definitely need to take out that magazine disconnect.

CZ75 SAO is a comfortable, accurate shooter also.

Yeah, they can bite the web of your hand, especially if they have a standard hammer spur. The Commander style ring hammer bites less, especially if you grip it with that in mind.

If I could get my hands on one, I'd opt for a STI Tactical 2011 in 9mm. Those things hardly have much more recoil than some of my .22lr pistols. It's pretty amazing.
