    Cleaning advise needed

I have a CZ-75 TS that is badly stained. I believe that its a factory defect in the coating however CZ is not willing to take care of the issue.

I have tried a lot of conventional chemicals as well as an ultrasonic cleaner to get rid of the carbon staining. CZ asked me to try 000 steel wool on it and all it did was dull the finish in my test spot.

The included photo is after an ultrasonic cleaning.

    Any help is welcome.

I wonder if a metal polish such as Maas would work. I use it on old Gillette razors with great results.

Did you buy the gun new that way? If so why did you accept it?

There are reports on web of the TS frame finish being damaged by ultrasonic cleaning.

Here is the text from one:

It was interesting... I asked CZ if it was fine to use a sonic cleaner, they said yes! Put it in their and, uh oh. The finish started peeling off, rusting, turning black in some places. It was strange looking. At least CZ replaced my TS free of charge but, it took a few calls, pictures, etc... They pretty much didn't believe me when I told them what happened.

I sent the gun to them and tgey called back, appologized, and sent a whole new gun.

@OC, No It was fine when I got it. After about 1000 rounds it started.
@Barbarosa, Great info however it Started well before I used a UC.

I have another one as well as 2 of my shooting mates and this is the only one that is doing this.

Looking for ideas on how to clean it up. I doesnt effect the weapon at all it just looks like crap.

That looks like a high milage gun (from the wear on the safety) with carbon smudges on the finish. Should wipe off with clp or any gun oil.

Yes its well used however its been an issue from about 2-3 months from being new.

Its wiped down and cleaned externally after every use. It doesnt wipe off.

If you look, its stained just about everywhere even in places with no blowback. Im a lefty so I get blowback on my right thumb and it gets onto the rest of my hands. You can see staining on the bottom of the trigger guard.

The finish is porous unlike my other TC or the ones my team mates shoot. Its a bad finish that CZ will not take care of.

I just need some ideas on what to use to clean it.

Send it out to CZC or CGW to coat it in black.

Try CLR (you may have some in your bathroom cabinet) followed by a freshwater rinse. Works very quickly on the muzzle of my bench rifle after the carbon is baked on inside the brake.

Then it wont match my Urban Shadow 2 from CZC
As an end game I may need to send it in to be re-coated.

                      Magic Eraser
Ill try that. Used them on other things.

My buddy wants me to try Simple Green BBQ Cleaner. Breaks down carbon and is a foam spray.

If that's the CZ polycoat finish you can use solvents etc, to get after dirt. Since that didn't work then the poorly executed finish is allowing the other finish to bleed through IMO. Can't clean that. Nothing will help.

Needs a refinish or change the story from "dirty gun needs cleaning" to "high mileage comp gun showing wear". Pick one.

You could always dump the silver paint job and get the frame hard-chromed like the earlier TS for $200. http://www.techplate.com/firearms_pl.htm They also offer other finishes; easy if you are near Anaheim.

I think it depends on what liquid you are cleaning it in.

Dude, you should see my 2002 Nissan Sentra if you want to see a crappy paint job. It looks like a redheaded stepchild that was left in the sun for too long...peeling everywhere! Sometimes, paint/finishes are just poorly done.

Oh yeah, IF you decide to refinish it ... consider if you also want to reduce the grip, since that would require refinishing anyway. If you are fine with the massive grip, then ignore this comment.
