I once brought my scar 17 to a public range to sight in. Right after ceasefire, i pull out my rifle and begin to set up. The first guy next to me a few lanes down shouts "OOOHHWEEE WHAT'S THAT SOMMB***H?" I reply and invite him to shoot a mag. He declines and goes back to shooting his long action ruger american (no clue what it was chambered in, i didn't ask or care). After a bit, i finally start shooting with my first string of 5 shots. As i begin to make my scope adjustments, i hear my neighbor mumble "that's a loud gun." He then packs up and leaves.

And that's how i got a whole bay to myself at a public range

Agree. Between range idiots and range snowflakes, I'd rather be with the range snowflakes at the adjacent lane.

In my past experience, I've not dealt with the range snowflakes. If I recall, I've got a funny look from guy as he looked at my flip flops and that was it. Life goes on. As with the range idiots, they can kill you.

He insisted "you need to tighten your grip" lol Since it wasn't the only gun I had, I chose to move on to another.

Few minutes later we moved on to a Desert Eagle and I get a tap on my shoulder "your gun is too loud, it's messing up my concentration" Meanwhile the lane to my left has been switching between a .45 handgun and a shotgun, with almost every shot of 12g shell landing onto my shooting platform. I was a bit dumbfounded at this point. I suggested switching lanes with the guy complaining but he didn't want to do that either. I don't think he was a very experienced shooter because he was complaining about too much residue in his face after shooting a .357 revolver Just made it an awkward experience since he was complaining about stuff I didn't have any direct control over.
Casings get shot in my face all the time from the guy to my left. It's part of going to the range. If the guy is reasonable you could offer to trade lanes. Then his casings will go to you instead of the other way around. If he doesn't agree to that he's not reasonable.

In terms of loud bangs from DE... Well if he doesn't want to hear loud bangs, I hear the library is very quiet. And they discourage talking in the movie theater also. What the hey? I would not be happy about someone shooting a shotgun next to me in an indoor range but ... it is a gun range and as long as they are following the rules it's difficult to object.

        What the hey?

I'll admit I always feel bad when my actions result in someone having a bad day, even when I'm right and they're wrong. So I get the question. But it sounds like you did everything right and they are just looking for a reason to be upset.

You did nothing wrong, when you are at a shooting range, you should expect loud noises, hot brass flying around and possibly powder or projectile fragments hitting you in the face. Wear the appropriate safety gear or stay home. I too have dealt with the occasional range pu$$y, one guy even came up and handed me a piece of brass and said this hit me, I took it and said thanks.

Shooting next to somebody with a muzzle brake, especially on an AR pistol is the worst. I wouldn't complain but I'd see if I could change lanes if there were some open ones. To OP: the jagoff next to you was in the wrong 100%. All you can do is politely apologize and keep going on with your business.

Sadly any a**hole with $15 can get in a range. I have always been aware of who is around me. I have no problem speaking "loudly" to anyone who does not keep their weapon pointed down range. Typically the Range Master immediately intervenes after that and he deals with the idiot.

I just went to a indoor range I had never been to. I generally avoid indoor ranges but I was meeting my daughter and her friends at this place. Max distance was 75'. Max cal allowed.....50!. So yeah indoor ranges can get very loud

It's the indoor ranges where the side patricians are not deep enough you can get sprayed with shell ejection from the next lane. Every range has its a holes, especially on weekends. And yes there will always be someone shooting uber high caliber stuff at indoor ranges so it gets stupid loud even with ear protection

You should've offer him to shoot it and see where the casings land. THen say" you need to tighten your grips."

Ever seen a Mini-14 or 30 chuck a fired case. I usually watch out for Mini14/30 shooters and try to keep them to my right.

Ask to change to another lane and best of all next to my lane.
                        - If a shell get to my place I will tell you: why only a couple send some more.
                        - If you shoot a loud gun I will tell you : shoot some more I like the sound.
                        - The worst is I may come to your lane and chat about guns, ammos, targets, what range to shoot and bla bla bla.

Even at an outdoor range, my HK P7M8 would eject cases 15 feet! No problem being the next station over because the casings just flew overhead.

My least favorite on the range are the bozos who have loose-necked shirts, girls with cleavage, and anyone wearing sandals or flip-flops. Totally inappropriate wardrobe at the shooting range. (Cleavage in any other location, great! Just not at the gun range.) Oh, and people who think their reading glasses are adequate as shooting glasses. Hello!!! They aren't! Get some good wrap-around safety glasses to prevent a hot casing from lodging next to your eye after it flies in from the side. (Happened to a shooting partner who had no problem with doubling up the glasses after that incident.)

I have a friend who used to work at a gun range in AZ. He once pissed off a customer complaining about another shooter's brake by asking him how he planned to return fire to an attacker if gunfire was so offputting with $300 ear pro on

I’ve always thought those are bonuses when they’re sporting and strutting their sexiness at the range.
