I'm convinced now that it is what it is. It doesn't affect the function and I'm not going to worry about it. All I want to do now is take it to the range and start putting some rounds through it. My neighbor is a veteran shooter and is going to go with me to coach me in doing it the right way.

Guns are tools, tools show use. If the look is that important to you (and for many it is), then don't shoot it or fondle it. Lots of folks have safe queens so have at it.

My P226 and P229 both have the rainbow-shaped scratch from the decocker. It's normal so don't worry about it.

I’d rather just shoot the thing and enjoy the mark as part of the process. As you get better, the more pronounced the mark...the more experienced the shooter. I’d much rather go shooting with or learn from a guy whose firearms look like they’ve been nicely worn from many years of use.

I used to kind of care about it but after I started doing a lot more classes/training, my guns get so dirty and scratched up I have stopped caring. As long as they go bang each time, I am good and don't care about scratches, dirt, holster wear, etc...

OP, please do consider the safety reminders in the spirit in which they're intended. First, to keep you safe. Second, to keep the firearms community safe, from another news report in which carelessness or lack of knowledge created a situation which fuels the anti-2A crowd.

Anyone can create a situation causing such a news report, even a firearms instructor with 30 years in the business. So, we all hold safety as our prime goal.

Carry on.... train, train, train. Put as many rounds through it as you have time and money for. Ask for help, tips, and coaching. Shooters are helpful people, so please let sarcasm roll off. It's part of the culture.

Enjoy your new pistol.... don't be surprised when you want another one pretty soon.

Now I had to look at the decocking lever on my (not 2022) DA-SA daily carry.
No blatant scratch marks at the lever.
The rest of the slide & barrel.....
Lots of holster wear marks. That and 10's of thousands of rounds.
