I just bought a new Sig Sauer SP2022 and brought it home a couple days ago. I haven't been to the range yet but looking forward to burning up a couple hundred rounds next week. I'm new to owning a semi automatic pistol, so as instructed, I took it down for a clean up and oiling and I've been playing with it a lot to get comfortable with how it works. I noticed that the de-cocker lever seems to slightly rub on the polymer frame, leaving a slight scrape in the finish. I wasn't too happy about seeing this but I don't know what to do about it. Does anyone have a SP2022 that does the same thing? My first thought was to try to bend the lever to create more clearance but I'm not willing to put any tools between the lever and frame to pry it outward. I'm afraid of damaging it. Any ideas? Should I take it back to the dealer?

never understood why people are worried about scratches on a gun.
will an intruder notice that decocker scratch? will you even think about it if you're ventilating someone that is trying to kill you?
eventually you're going to have to shoot the gun...just wait till you see the barrel wear from the slide and barrel contact. If you think a little plastic scratch or mar is going to drive you crazy I can't wait to see what that will do for you.MESSAGE ME FOR ARMAGLOCK COUPON CODES!!!!

I do not have a sig 2022 but IMHO, no gun should have parts designed so that the of such part(s) causes visible scratches on it.
Now, is that important? Yes and no. It matters to folks who like to keep their equipment in top shape aesthetically as well as functionally. And there are some folks who do not care anout dings, dents and scratches on their guns/equipment as long as it works. That is alright too.
OP, sorry you got disappointed with your first semi pistol.Comment

When the lever flexes inward when pushed, and because of inadequate clearance it causes contact, that's poor design. As far as the scratch goes, I'm not worried about it and I realize it doesn't affect it's function...I just keep my stuff (cars, toys, etc) in pristine condition and to me it's annoying when manufacturers make simple design mistakes that would have been easy to correct. I also realize it's their budget gun and I still think it was a good value.Comment

Then don't look at the interface between the slide and the muzzle...or the smilies that are going to appear on the barrel from racking the slide...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment

I'm going to risk offending you because, as you said, you're new to pistols, but this is intended in the best way. As you're "playing with it a lot to get comfortable with how it works", make sure that any and all ammo is NOT in the same room. Too many innocent televisions, family pets and, accidental deaths come from the negligent discharges of an "I didn't think it was loaded" firearm.
Enjoy your Sig and stay safe.NRA Certified Instructor: Basic Pistol ShootingComment

I had an SP2022 for a few years, and never had a wear issue under the decocker.Comment

My 229 has noticeable wear on the finish from the decocking arm. Not really sure why its much of a surprise. Two components that contact each other are going to wear in literally every application known to man.
Given that the actual thumb rest for the decocking arm isnt directly in line with the main sheet metal, youre always going to have some component of your force pushing the lever against the frame. The world wont endComment

The way the lever is shaped it's difficult to push it down without also pushing it in a little. It's just the way it's shaped and it "gives" a little when actuated. If they had just created few thousandths more clearance it wouldn't touch at all. No big deal, I was just curious if others did the same thing or was mine not right. Thanks for the input.Comment

I've got two SP2022's and I could care less if the decocker scratches the frame.
I've got a 70's Combat Commander with safety and slide release wear marks on the frame. Its reliable and a great shooter as well as my muscle memory SD weapon.
The wear marks are a sign of a well used firearm and not a safe queen.50% Deplorable, 50% wanting America to return to what it was
