I was in similar situation last year, deciding between M9 and 92FS. In addition to the differences you noted (sights, markings), here are few more:
92FS has a slanted dust cover (only older 92FS has straight dust cover), M9 is always straight
92FS has a slight radius curve under the bobtail. It's hard to notice, but you'll see it if have both M9 and 92FS side by side.
92FS is available in Inox, M9 only in black.

For me, I wanted a black gun and really like the straight dust cover design. The sights were about the same for me. So, that plus the M9's military style markings, it was a no-brainer for me to choose the M9.

And to answer your last question, 92FS and M9 are fully interchangeable in magazines and external/internal parts.

I found both at a LGS for $600; I think that's a reasonable price. I handled them both and rented and shot them. I didn't notice much difference but I did like the sights more on the M9. Are the magazines and parts interchangeable?

Why is this an issue on a service pistol? Extensively modifying a M9 or 92FS is an exercise in futility.. that's not why one buys them.

      Really? How so?

The M9 has a chrome lined barrel as does the 92FS.

Single biggest reason to get the M9? No idiot safety roll makings on the slide!

This is what happens to the 92fs plastic decocker when you actually use the firearm as it was intended.

I am doubtful you're much of a pistol shooter, but sights are a critical component of shooting and having drift adjustable and replaceable high visibility sights are not extensive modifications.

If you look at the 92G SD, which was spec'd by Dave Harrington, former Army Green Beret and a senior weapons instructor at Ft Bragg , and the 92 LTT, spec'd by Ernest Langdon, former Marine sniper and instructor for the Marine Corps sniper and high risk personnel programs, you'll notice something.

Both those models feature dovetail front sights.
Sorry, but you just torpedoed any credibility you might have had with the personal attack in your second paragraph. Very mature of you.

Maybe 800 very young pistol and caused failure during a training session. Replaced all the internals with steel, no more plastic guts.

And flared magwell, and aggressive grip checkering, and 92FS relief cut on the back strap. That was my vote when I came into the thread, but OP already bought the M9.

Well, the real question is ... which one did John McClane use to take down the Nakatomi Tower terrorist Hans Gruber? And which one Martin Riggs use to take out a heroin smuggling ring and some smug South African Diplomat (whose Diplomatic Immunity ... just got revoked?)

Pretty sure it was the 92F in both Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. Later sequels upgraded to the 92FS.
