Taurus owners beware

For those that are TLDR... here's the cliff notes.
Super long article devoid of facts with a sob story or two tossed in.
Basically, some models aren't drop safe and some guns can fire when you pull the trigger with the safety on.
Brazilian military/police can only buy domestic product, so they buy Taurus. Taurus overcharges them because they control 90% on firearms made in BR. The end.

The PT millenium series has been on recall for some time now. Not exactly a new story. Ive got a PT145 buried in a closet or a glove box or something. It's best used to turn cash into noise without the unnecessary expense of ruining a perfectly good paper target but I'm not sending it back for the $75 I'll get for it. I can always throw it at someone if I need to.Peace, love, and heavy weapons. Sometimes you have to be insistent." - David Lee RothOriginally posted by KestryllDude went full CNN...Comment

I read the article.
The article is titled: "How Defective Guns Became the Only Product That Can’t Be Recalled" and ends with "The NRA is Silent". I would suggest the interest is more than Taurus pistols. The intent is to change the law and place firearms under CPSC control and regulation. That, not Taurus, is the issue they are pushing. As was suing gun store owners and manufacturers until Congress passed protections, this is nothing more than an effort to instigate a backdoor ban on private gun ownership. Mr. Bloomberg has about as much interest in safe guns as the Klan has promoting civil rights.
I don't believe this an article just about Taurus semi-auto pistols. The article is replete with attacks against the NRA and slippery comments about guns firing when dropped, and an insinuation that lower priced guns ought not be on the market. Including the Taurus Model 85, which uses a transfer bar safety (like Ruger and Colt) that's nearly impossible to fire accidentally. Perhaps next they'll focus on Glocks not having a safety and that the Army chose a defective Sig?

It's hard to overstate how dangerous that is for states with rosters. A .gov bureaucracy decides a part must be changed on Gen 3 Glocks? Good bye grandfathered-in GLock 19, 26, 21.Originally posted by cvigueThis is not rocket surgery.Comment

And, it points out the deviousness and underhandedness of the gun control folks. This comes up from time to time, using Taurus is just the flavor of the day. It could easily be all traditional single action "western style" revolvers, all 1911s to include those privately held. We need little imagination regarding commercial sales results and bans, what would happen to those already owned?
Do they become the gun equivalent of elephant ivory or eagle feathers?
Anti-gunners assert it has nothing to do with gun control, it's just plain old "consumer protection", and some folks fall for it.
I'm getting old. I've seen it all before and what's more, I don't understand how others don't spot it too.
BTW, a few other guns that made co-mention with Taurus (in another article) as being unsafe for shooters - the Sten Gun, because whacking this open bolt machine gun on the ground (who'd have guessed ...) could cause discharge, the Winchester 1911 shotgun, the Japanese Nambu pistol and the Blaser 93.

I just sold mine for $200 on consignment (less 10%.) It ran fine after being sent back to Taurus three times but I wasn't going to trust it for a carry gun. I actually liked it, a great way to carry 10+1 of .45 in a smaller-than-midsize-glock package but I wasn't willing to trust my life to it.The PT millenium series has been on recall for some time now. But yes, Taurus having issues isn't anything new and it has been discussed her quite a bit.

Ok, this is new to me. I know that magazine disconnects only work when no pressure is on the trigger.
That is all that I have handled.
I did not know the Tarus safety is the same way
But seriously, the people pointed a loaded gun at their body and pulled on the trigger. Where is the lawsuit against Ford. I set the parking brake and was still able to get the car to run over toddlers...

I was going to send it in for the barrel not seating correctly due to wear, but I don't think I'll get it back if I do. Might do it anyway and just buy something else, but that size in .45 is pretty sweet.I just sold mine for $200 on consignment (less 10%.) I have a Taurus that my grandfather gave me. It's now sentimentally valuable to me, even though it has no monetary value.
The gun isn't a solid shooter, in fact it is pretty in accurate. But in it's own defense it's a subcompact, it's not supposed to take recoil well or be super accurate.
My biggest gripe is the trigger. It's pretty inconsistent on the break and double action only kind of sucks. I wouldn't keep it for ccw but I'll never sell it either since its now an heirloom. I'll probably give it to my son someday and teach him how to shoot on it. If he can shoot well with that gun he will do great with a quality full sized afterward.God, Guns & Integrity.
