    Cleaning a Glock

So being that it is polymer is there any cleaning solutions to avoid? How about some tips??
I once pondered over the debate of 9mm vs. .40, then I was introduced to .38 super and 10mm and forgot all about it.

Just to see I've thrown it in ATF, Kerosene, sprayed it with Brake Cleaner, spewed Hoppes all over it, you name it, dropped it in a pan with motor and just let it set ...

no problems, except the Glock Armorer told me to keep it dry, just a little oil or CLP ... a little ... on the rails and a spec between the trigger mechanism and the connector.

In any event, the barrel slides right out, and it's steel. Ain't no plastic on it.

I have used Rem Oil, Ballistol, break free CLP, Tetra(?) and other gun-specific cleaners, no problems.

I would not use stronger solvents like acetone or methyl ethyl ketone.

How about using an ultrasonic cleaner for everything after a field strip?

ultrasonic is a good one, I do that after I give it a good wipe down to remove all the big stuff. just make sure you have some air to dry it off.

When I'm cleaning the frame, I use a polymer-safe degreaser.

                  This.
Also works for black powder revolvers... well, once at least.

Maybe it’s just me, but people around here really enjoy cleaning their guns...

I'm beginning to see the same thing. While I enjoy the solitary task once in a while, cleaning guns is not how I'd prefer to spend my time.

OP, I use ballistol on most on most of my guns. Seems to work as well as the 100 or so other gun cleaners.

I don't over-oil, so my Glocks clean up by wiping them with a rag.

What are you guys doing that you need solvents?

This is how you clean a Glock. Watch very carefully.Multiple times if needed.

I’ll run a bore brush with Hoppes every 500 rds or so. Scrub metal parts too. Lube rail points and wipe everything else. Avoid getting solvent or oil into hole opposite the safety plunger...crap will accumulate and clog up where the striker sits. Even at 500 rds it’s probably overkill.

Every couple of years, find a Glock days at a gun shop or a GSSF shoot. Take your gun in, and let the factory guys do what they need to do for free, then go shoot for a couple more years.

Maybe there are different types of polymer that is used in pistol frames? Polymer 80 specifically warns against using anything with acetone in it as it will break polymer down or at least the type that they use in their Glock type frames.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...
