I don’t mean to thread jack, but does anyone run plated bullets? (will a 240gr at 1200fps cycle?)

i think the whole key phrase is " full-metal jacket with an open lead base"

most FMJ do not have expose lead base, but 44 mag i am not sure

To OP: Along with Magtech, I’ve used PMC 240 JHP and my DE worked fine. What Magnum Research mentions is true, but can get those areas to clean, scrub, scrape (ouch!). It’s the gas port in the barrel ahead of the chamber that is very hard to access and clean that all DE owners need to be aware of.

To FuzzyBrows: Right on! Those are the same ingrediants for my loads. Do your loads light off OK w/ the Winchester primers? Im kinda paranoid somI use CCI magnums.

To Catch: yeah you can push a 240grn plated head to 1200 with no bad effects . . . In a revolver. If you see a bit of leading you can clean it. You don’t have to deal with a gas port in the barrel like a DE.
Would you load plated bullets for an AR at the Max velocities?
I’ve tried unsuccessfully with lighter loads and found that with that heavy *** slide combined with the gorilla poundage weight of the (4) recoil springs demands full power magnum ammo.
So this means I load right up to max from what my 1980’s RCBS mannual lists.
The 240 XTP’s are the most accurate for me at 100 yrds, but w/ 200grn you can load in a little more powder which just lights up the sky, lol.
              ====================================
My personal choice is to either shoot factory full power JHP/SP ammo, or load only full power loads using JHP/SP bullets. Both having no exposed lead that can come in contact with the gas port. This is my belief after helping (2) other DE owners with cycling problems w/ reloaded ammo. One guy just plain futzed it and plugged up his gas port just after 100 rounds of hard cast lead RN. The other gentleman shot a combination of 2000 FMJ and plated bullets and eventually had his gas port plugged up. Long soaks in solvent could not loosen the stoppage so both people ended up having to buy another barrel. They did not want to try an escalated crisis process of using extreme heat or harsher (Toxic) chemicals.

I ran Winchester white box when I had my deagle 44mag. I’d put 100rnds per trip on average and never had a problem or any signs of anything locking up. Mine did like to be well lubed though.

Mine ran fine with the Winchester Bambi and yogi loads, and really loves the Remington umc. 180 grain I believe. It really puts on a show with those. I shot lax ammo, and wholesale ammo bulk, it hated those. I bought some American Eagle and a box of fiocchi to try those out. I just wish there was more selection in stores here in California.

I can say that it's taken almost 3 or 400 rounds for mine to start settling in and working better.

I only shoot FMJ or partially plated hollow points with jacketed bases. Black Bear works well, but some of their loadings are too long to fit in the magazine.

                          Prvi Partizan works pretty well.

In general, I get the heaviest round I can at any moment, and just accept that sometimes I'll have to tap the back to get it to go fully into battery.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

i assumed i was slightly limp wristing when i to had to tap the slide to get it into battery with WWB. every now and then i have a failure to feed where the round would get chewed up between the feed ramp/chamber and the bolt

I can't say I'm not limpwristing it, but:

1: I'm 6'6" and have pretty big hands and wrists
2: the general sense seems to be that the DE just works better in .50AE. That tells me there's an issue with the .44 (not enough gas pressure?)
