The wife has a CW9 as her CCW piece. it is, IMO, one of the underrated pistols on the market. Personally, I like the double action trigger for concealed carry and it eliminate a lot of the striker fire negligent discharges when holstering. If I didn't have my Sig P938 as my primary piece this would be the one I would go to.

But is it any better than the similarly priced Shield?

Both are quality guns. It really comes down to buyer preference. Personally, I don't like striker fire guns for CCW use because there have been way to many negligent discharges with that system.

I like my PM9 (and G43) for fall through spring carry. (LCP mainly for summer carry). But my P938 is crying to replace one of the other two on my permit. I would have to increase my training reps to commit the safety to muscle memory though, particularly with the others being striker fired.

When you just CCW for the sake of CCW and don't train for the responsibility, the CW9 makes perfect sense. Its long smooth trigger makes it much more difficult to do follow up/double tap shots compared to striker fired guns like the Shield.

Kahr pistols have a known issue (not all) with slide peening, failure to feed and can choke on some hollow point ammo.

The CW9 is pretty bullet proof. If you haven’t owned one and shot the heck out of it, then you are just repeating what you read somewhere.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your opinion of the CW9. My wife and I shoot frequently. She can double tap the target within milliseconds of me double tapping with my EMP, be on target and put both of her rounds into close proximity of each other. I guess it is a matter of subjective performance.

You're right though, if you're going to CCW and not practice...that brings up a whole lot of other concerns.

ETA: We have put everything from 115gr FMJ to our then duty ammo that was 127gr +P+ thru it and it fed everything without a hiccup.

I also had a PM9 a couple years back and actually like the wife's CW9 a little better. We sold her original one that easily had 2500rds thru it without any issues so for her birthday I got her the one with the front night sight. After several hundred rounds through that one no issues either. Like I said above, I think the CW9 is one of the most underrated pistols out there.

That's the way to do it! Practice with it, and test it with a varied diet of ammo. That's the way to be sure and CONFIDENT that it's ready when you need it to be! True for any firearm!

My post history shows I am a big fan of the CW9 and Kahrs in general. These are absolutely the most underrated subcompacts in California. Most gun owners have no idea I'm carrying. Excellent gun to shoot.

My biggest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.
