What?! Anyone can put 10 rounds lf 9 in a ragged hole. Its gonna be a lot slower for the average person to do the same with 40. ****. Even 45 is a much more pleasant recoil impulse than that freakish red headed step child 40

Oh dont get me wrong. I'd love to try out a 10mm. Never have. I love my 30sf once I put an agency arms flat trigger in it. But I hated my uncles glock 22 with the twisting recoil on the 40 compared to a 45s push. Obviously 9mm recoil is next to zero compared to the others. I have 2 9s I'm extremely quick with. Why would I want to fight the extra recoil of larger calibers when proper hollow points like federal HSTs will get tje job done in 9mm

That said I've always lusted after a ruger alaskan in 454 Casull. You know. For when the bad guy is hiding behind your neighbors refrigerator.

Everyone has preference, what they are most proficient with, and you should stick with what you train with.

Shooting a bad guy behind a fridge with a hand cannon holds some appear, but damn your milk is going to spoil.

Im considering adding another caliber for CCW. Right now all my guns a 9mm but lately Ive been thinking I should add something with some more stopping power to me permit.
Some basic background .....
-I am able to reload so making practice ammo wont be an issue
-I dont go hiking or camping so bears and mountain lions arent on my radar
-I would prefer a compact pistol but not against a sub-compact

So... what pistol/caliber would you recommend?

Glock 29sf, then purchase a Glock 30 complete slide and mags for it off of Gunbroker.......best of both worlds for carry.

Why do you want to double the weight of your carry Ammo to achieve a minimal ballistic advantage? Sounds like you just want a new gun, which makes perfect sense.

I’d just get a different caliber of my current carry, so they hopefully can share a holster, etc... that way you can also practice with the 9mm and carry the heavier caliber.

I really really want a .45 shield!

if you can find a 45 in a size you like that for sure.
if not 380... you can find some small pocket guns that carry nice.
while some scoff at 380 i find it perfect for warm weather carry as they are light and conceal easy and have enough penetration.
better to carry a small gun than leave a big one at home..

"Better" is a relative term. .40 has more energy at the point of impact than 9mm does...certainly. But it also has more recoil. And is more expensive to practice with. Accordingly "better" is a very subjective term that will vary person to person and must be weighed against the cons.
