    Adding another caliber..... but what?

Im considering adding another caliber for CCW. Right now all my guns a 9mm but lately Ive been thinking I should add something with some more stopping power to me permit.
    Some basic background .....
-I am able to reload so making practice ammo wont be an issue
-I dont go hiking or camping so bears and mountain lions arent on my radar
-I would prefer a compact pistol but not against a sub-compact

So... what pistol/caliber would you recommend?

When I wanted to add a 45 and a possible ccw I went glock 30sf. Its like a brick but shoots like a ***** cat. Perfect for winter carry at 430.

A 45 ACP would seem the natural. And there are a fair number of compact 1911s out there, even in CA.

I've had some sort of CCW for nearly all the previous 42 yrs, back then MA issued LTCs at 18 yrs old. I started out with a Commander and over the years have gone smaller. To a Detonics, a 45 ACP Agent & an EMP. Now it's mostly a J frame Smith or a Sig 938. The Sig just really spoils the heck out of me.

I don't think I'm alone in the "downsizing" routine as we get a little older.

While it may not be "more powerful" you may want to consider a plain old 38 Special (or 357, in which case it would be) on the theory that there are alot of small, light & readily concealable revolvers out there and you may end up carrying something smaller down the road.

              OP
Try +P ammo in what you carry now. Giddyup galore.
*Unless of course you just want to get another pistol/caliber, then of course please do carry on.

IDK a 9mm with LE +P ammo is pretty effective, but if you must have more power a small .357 mag wheel gun, or a small Glock in .45 with +P loads. We are kinda screwed in CA for selection.
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

I assume you know this, but the FBI found modern 9mm LE ammo to be the best for its agents. Not saying 45 ACP is a worse round, necessarily, but I would spend the $600 you'd spend on a, say, a Glock 30, instead on taking a defensive handgun training course appropriate for your skill level.

Do you want to add a new caliber with the new state ammo restrictions in place?

.45 ACP Because all that stuff they did to make the 9mm more effective also made the .40 S&W and .45 ACP more effective too. Except they were superior rounds to begin with so now they are even more superior..

The Army could have gone with the 9MM in 1905 and they looked at it but thru trial and error they found out the .45 was a better caliber for shooting people. Something about the bullet being twice as big as the 9MM.

The only reason why they went with 9MM this time around is to succumb to NATO rules and the big reason,,, THE AMMO IS MUCH CHEAPER!

I have a G36 and with Pearce Mag Extensions it shoots really well and is easy to hit with.

Get a .45acp handgun, or a 44 magnum revolver. You'll like the diversity.
