I renewed online in November and my license is "normal" Bear and Half Dome on the upper right corner. Back says Rev 4/16/2010.

I had to get a new Real ID a week after getting my Federal Limits Apply license.

The DMV won’t tell you that you need one to buy a firearm in California. Probably because they don’t know.

The fact that US citizens are being given licenses for criminal aliens is ridiculous enough, but theres no excuse for the DMV site to not be updated with a disclaimer, especially at this point.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a lawsuit filed yet.

I have tried to follow the changes in the California Driver license. I've seen the "federal limits apply" notation. Tell me i'm wrong, if a person was to renew their license starting this year, and did not ask for a Real Id, their new license will look exactly like the ones issued under AB60 to illegal aliens. Say it ain't so ?

what better way to muddy up the waters by having so many legal citizens with restricted licenses - helps the illegal alien license holders blend right in, right?

CA waited until the last possible minute to start implementing Real ID license's into the the State - not even an effort to inform the people that renewing online would give them the restricted/same version license issued to the illegals

Not even when renewing or applying for a new id/dl in person do they inform you the option is between a federally compliant id or an illegal alien license that prevents the exercise of a constitutional right.

It was 100% intentional. There was absolutely no reason for them to stop issuing standard drivers licenses to CA citizens except to blur the line between legal citizens and criminal aliens and as a bonus punish gun owners in CA.

It's California, things were running smoothly and law abiding citizens weren't being screwed over needlessly during a routine interaction with the government. That had to change.

I'm new to this world, but can I ask where you went?? My buddy took me to Turners down the street because I wanted a 1911 as my first gun and they had the RIA GI model on sale. I did the same exact thing....CA Drivers License, Vehicle Registration (both with different addresses due to my parents divorce and me bouncing between them and not updating info) along with my firearm cert. They had zero issues taking my deposit and processing the DROS. Get my gun Tuesday

I'd call a few other shops and maybe just take your business elsewhere. If they can't/won't help you. Then there are plenty other shops around :P

I went to Discount Gun Mart in San Diego. I wanted to buy a CZ Scorpion Evo Carbine but not a lot of shops carry it. I went to Turners first but they didn't have any in stock in SD. Discount Gun Mart had 1 in stock.

Most people don't even know about the real ID.

A passport is never accepted as an id/proof of residence for purchasing guns.

Or, you may have had something odd about you or annoyed them and they just did not want to sell to you.

Any and all gun stores in Calif accept a CDL plus a car registration for any gun purchase.

Dude it happened, I'm not lying (why the **** would I lie about this?). The last time I purchased a firearm was about a year ago so I didn't know about this. If you read the first two responses by Quiet and Calguns77 you'd see that the gunshop was actually correct. The DL and vehicle registration were used for proof of residence in CA. The US Passport was proof that I was not an illegal immigrant bc my CA DL has "Federal Limits Apply" on it.

A new Federal standard for photo IDs from the W. Bush-era. Current CA DLs don't meet that standard and only physically going to the DMV with all relevant paperwork will net you a DL that meets Real ID standards.


All we need now is Voter ID.

It was passed in 2005 and went into effect in 2014.
^Currently, only 30 States are compliant and the other 20 States are in process & have extensions.

CA had been getting extensions since 2013.

Last extension ended in 2017 and the Feds were going to enforce starting 2018. But once CA started issuing compliant DL/ID, CA was given a process extension.

This final extension will end in 2020 and by that time the older style CA DL/ID should be phased out and the only CA DL/ID left will be the REAL ID compliant ones & the Federal Limit Apply ones.

After that no access to military bases using alien cdl's. Find your ss card and docs and be ready or have a passport. Wait till october and you may wait in line for couple days.
