I contacted both Jardine and Chen in the past year.

1. Jardine has enough work to do till he dies. Therefore, he will refuse any new work.

2. Chen has enough work for the next several years. Therefore, you to be vetted to even be considered for his waitlist.

I think Stan Chen's work is art and I spoke to him in 2006 about doing a build for me but he turned it down because he was too busy. If you can get him to do your work that would be great, but I had no luck. Since 2006, I've had builds done for me by Bob Rodgers with metalwork by Chuck Rogers, John Harrison, and Ted Yost. All of them are masters of the custom 1911. Bob Rodgers is retired now, Chuck is turning down new work, I waited 7 years for John Harrison's build. Ted Yost's work is as good as any and his backlog is more reasonable.

Thanks "m1match". I actually spoke to Stan Chen and he was able to fit in my pistol. I was so excited I shipped it the same day. The pistol is a Kimber Stainless Target 9mm and it will be getting the Range Officer machine package.

He offers a satin finish but I'm hoping for a Hard Chrome frame and Ion bond slide; but I don't want to push my luck.

On another note, I think I will put my name on John Harrison's list. I had some "a la carte" work done on a Dan Wesson PM7 and it was excellent.

There are many others who do excellent work and offer more "reasonable" turnaround times, so unless you are dead set on having a full custom build from Stan, you can hit up other top notch gunsmiths... Some examples:
