There's a difference between infractions that may or may not be enforced at the discretion of the authorities v. a misdemeanor/felony level crimes that the government authorities would love to enforce.

You may think no one will know about or do anything about something. That may be so, unless someone has it in for you and they apply for a Domestic Protective Order or they make a call to law enforcement. That or a District Attorney's office is looking for a way to put extra pressure on you.
