I wouldn't necessarily consider a 5 inch slide/barrel assembly long. What is it about long pistols that you don't like?

If you are set on Springfield and you have a few more months to go before you get it, save up a little and get a loaded model. Although I think the vertical serrations on the slide and no front cocking serrations that the GI and Mil-Spec use look much nicer than the serrations on the loaded, the loaded model offers some nice (I think necessary) upgrades. Chiefly, I think the beavertail grip safety and the better sights are really great upgrades. The feel of the trigger is also an important consideration, does anyone know if the triggers are better?

I honestly dont really know, I've always had shorter barreled pistols. My XD is the first true full size I have had.

I got rid of a Wilson Pro Elite to get the money for a full custom specifically because I think a 5 inch barrel is much easier to shoot well than a 4 inch barrel.

Maybe I will go for the one in O.D. That was a 5".

Having owned and shot both, I'm a full-size loyal. I concur with everyone above who said to go with the 5".

I mean, to each his own, but that's my 5 cents.

I understand the need for a smaller sidearm for whose who are ccw, but I agree ... if John Browning thought a 4" worked better, the M1911 would have been issued in 4"

OK, I am convinced about the full size 5". Mil-Spec or G.I.? Sure wish somebody had them in stock so I could see the difference between the sights.

I'd been looking for a Springfield GI for a while, everyone was sold out, so I ended up with a Para instead. Still want my damn Springfield GI though!

Google images would give you a quick peek. GI has the standard 1911a1 style sights that are low and small. Mil-Specs have raised 3 dots.

                      Brian go for the Milspec.

2 main reasons would be the larger sights and flared ejection port. Those brass can pop you in the forehead good on the GI models.
