Help choosing my next 1911

I'd consider either a Kimber TLE II or some of the Sig models. Both are readily available here in CA, and both meet your criteria. I'm sure you will get some Kimber haters, but they are, for the money, better 1911s out of the box. The fit and finish of some of those that I have had are better than any of the similarly priced Colts (based on the fact that they are priced at a higher amount since off list). You can also score some used ones here in the marketplace for around your price range if you have some patience. I've seen some well-priced Ed Browns, Wilsons, etc at or around your budget on occasion.

In that price range I would think you would be looking at Springfield or Dan Wesson on the roster. Sig is another option if you like their take on the 1911.Comment

You get a lot for your money with a Sig 1911, front strap checkering specifically. If you can get past the funky slide. That's what I'd buy if I was looking for a 1911. Kimber' s not a bad choice either, but I think the Sig is less expensive than any Kimber with front strap checkering.Comment

I love my kimber tleII. I think I paid like 1100 for it, it has front and backstrap checkering as well as a picatinny rail and night sights. Good bang for the buck and it runs great, I've actually never had a malfunction with it using any type of ammo. I'd also look at the springfields in that price range and stay away from the SIG 1911.Comment

Springfield TRP is a good option and there fairly easy to find. If you can find one a Dan Wesson PM7 may also be a good fit. There are some great deals that come up in the marketplace as well for PPT.Not As Lean, Not As Mean, Always A Marine - Semper FiComment

My Sig TacOps: 4 Wilson Combat Magazines. Ambi Safety. Extended flared magwell. Night sights. Front strap checkered. Skeleton Trigger. Accessory Rail. Eats everything, 100% reliability. Hard sturdy case.
Less than a grand.
Yeah, I'd say so.Comment

There's a TLE Stainless in the classifieds right now: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...&highlight=tleI love my kimber tleII.
