I'd consider either a Kimber TLE II or some of the Sig models. Both are readily available here in CA, and both meet your criteria. I'm sure you will get some Kimber haters, but they are, for the money, better 1911s out of the box. The fit and finish of some of those that I have had are better than any of the similarly priced Colts (based on the fact that they are priced at a higher amount since off list). You can also score some used ones here in the marketplace for around your price range if you have some patience. I've seen some well-priced Ed Browns, Wilsons, etc at or around your budget on occasion.

If you find a Ruger SR1911, it would be my preference. Off roster, but I see them in the classifieds occasionally

In that price range I would think you would be looking at Springfield or Dan Wesson on the roster. Sig is another option if you like their take on the 1911.

You get a lot for your money with a Sig 1911, front strap checkering specifically. If you can get past the funky slide. That's what I'd buy if I was looking for a 1911. Kimber' s not a bad choice either, but I think the Sig is less expensive than any Kimber with front strap checkering.

I just bought a new Springfield TRP, it has all those things. You can find them used for your budget. I would also look at Kimber too.

I love my kimber tleII. I think I paid like 1100 for it, it has front and backstrap checkering as well as a picatinny rail and night sights. Good bang for the buck and it runs great, I've actually never had a malfunction with it using any type of ammo. I'd also look at the springfields in that price range and stay away from the SIG 1911.

Sig 1911. Great pistols for the money.

                  WTB used AK MFER.

You have a Colt already. Consider saving up a bit more and get something special.

Or, you could buy a Rock Island Armory 1911, use it as your shooter, get your Colt customized.

Springfield TRP. Look in the F/S section.

Springfield TRP is a good option and there fairly easy to find. If you can find one a Dan Wesson PM7 may also be a good fit. There are some great deals that come up in the marketplace as well for PPT.
