    Electronic Ears

Every time I hit the range, I always kick myself about not having looked into electronic ears. Now, the ears I have are great and protect me well, but hearing convos is a PITA, and you have to time it well.

For those of you who have bought electronic ears, which brand & model would you recommend, from actual use/experience? I mainly shoot my Kimber 45 with +P ammo, so good ear protection is a must.

    Thx in advance.

MSA Sordin Supremes are arguably the best electronic ears on the market, and command a premium to boot!
WTS: Ewbank AKM & NDS-4 AK receivers, Custom Chief AJ Ruger Mini-14

    WTS: Oakley SI Shoes

    WTS KAC rail panels

WTS: MGI Hydra Modular AR Lower

Yup. I have a Sordin and it works good. However, I prefer to use with foam ear plug.

Sordin. I use foamies if it's really loud.

I have two pairs of Sordins as well.

          Well worth the investment.

I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

Best place for a good deal on the Sordins?

I paid 20.00 for my coldwell cheapos, they have lasted a good 6 months so far. Of course they are ugly, look like they are worth about 20 bucks, and as big as any set of ears out there, but for the price I cant complain.

I've been using a set from Dillon Precision for about ten years with no problems at all. I also double up with foam plugs for indoor shooting.

I've been totally satidfied with these....

Paid less than $50 and they work just as well as others I tried costing 4x more. Just not as pretty or cushy. Not too big, fold up well, showing signs of wear but for the price you can't beat 'em. If I lost them, I'd buy them again.

I got the Pro Ears Mag. I doubt if there's really a "best" brand, there are several that will give complete satisfaction.

The main thing is how are you going to use them, i.e., if you wear ONLY the electronic ears, you need a high NRR, like 29 to 33 range. If you're going to wear ear plugs under them ALL the time, then you can get a pair down to 24-25 range.
I would highly suggest, don't bother with anything less than 24-25 range NRR number. You will irrevocably lose a small amount of your hearing capacity with anything less. It doesn't seem that important until you get to be my age, and then it's too late. Please heed this advice from experience, the NRR matters, spend the money and keep your hearing. Your biggest noise problem might not be your own guns. Indoor ranges especially can be so loud, like when the magnum revolvers in the lanes on both sides of you go repeatedly. Remember NRR at least 25, better 29-33.

                            Hmm...Sordins show a NRR of only 18.

Howard Leight's. Very reasonable in cost, comfortable for 9 hours straight wear (RSO duty), and great on battery life. They have a 4 hour cutoff, which is only annoying during a competition, otherwise that tells me it's lunchtime
