As I replied to the other thread, it's not unlikely or likely, it's the truth that the gunsmith asked or confirmed with his repairs manager but not me.

I didn't know what caused the crack at the moment of calling them. They told me the installing sight caused the problem.

Even I would know, why I had to tell them? I'm not only pro 2A, but also know 5A.

Your naiveness is forgivable, as you haven't deal with Beretta's customer service. Thank you for bumping this thread to let more people notice.

      Yes. I did.

You, as a PHD in Engineering, should have realized, that you may have been in over your head whilst destroying the PX4.

Because I already have 3 Glocks, and all sights are replaced by myself, with a single hand.

Thanks for your recommendation and bumping this thread!

Haha, then please post the picture of your measurement. It does not matter whether I destroy anything, it matters that whether you still believe "objects fall at speed proportional to their mass."?

Anyway, no matter what you post, thank you for bumping this thread to let more people know it!

Yes, I got it: you don't have PX4, just use your imagination to bump this thread. Haha, haha~

My Ph.D. tutor always lectures me: you can't wake up the person who pretends to sleep. However, I told him: with my loud voice, I may wake up other ones.

I sold 2 Cougars and 2 PX4's. Kept most of my 92/96 handguns.

                  What's your point Professor? Lol.

My point is: YOU DONT HAVE PX4, YOU USE YOUR IMAGINATION TO QUESTION THE THICKNESS I MEASURED.

Not matter how lol you are, you didn't measure the thinnest part of the right side of the PX4 slide.

I won't be reluctant to repeat my point again. If you need, please ask.

                        Your story keeps on changing.

What EXACTLY did you tell them? "Hello, I have a PX-4, and the slide is cracked." Then they ask you: "What happened?" and you told them EXACTLY what?

                        (1) It was sitting in the safe and the slide cracked?
                        (2) I was shooting it and the slide cracked?
                        (3) I was trying to fix the sights and the slide cracked?
                        (4) I was posting on CalGuns and the slide cracked?

How did they know it was "installing the sight" that caused the problem and not, e.g., "handloaded ammunition?" That would be the first thing to ask you: "Did you use reloaded ammunition?"

Please explain how the conversation went and what you told them. Be very specific, because you're trashing a company based on this conversation.

Bumping a thread goes both ways - it can make Beretta look bad, but it can also make you look bad and exonerate Beretta.

Your claim that I haven't dealt with Beretta is completely arbitrary - you have no idea what you're talking about since you know neither me, nor who I dealt with. I indeed don't have many Berettas, but from the top of my head (after a glass of wine) I can count a 692, an A400, a 92FS compact done by Wilson, an 87 Target, an 85FS and, yes, a PX-4 with Trijicon night sights, converted to "G" model, with low profile levers. Except for shotguns, I don't shoot the rest much, so I'm not a Beretta fanboy. The PX-4 sits in my desk at the office and I'll occasionally use it for dry fire, even though I've never shot it at a match and I don't even shoot Production.

If you want to be taken seriously, describe your conversation with Beretta. If they asked you "how did it happen" and you told them "I'm not only pro 2A, but also know 5A," there is just a possibility that they were completely correct to ask you to pay for the shipping.

Either way, it WAS YOUR fault and it looks like you just wanted to scam them for the shipping. If not, you'd tell them "I broke it while installing sights," so they can tell you back "well, it's not covered under warranty," so we can all agree that if you break something it's not someone else's fault and you can pay for the shipping.

Also, you can easily find what slides are going for. Here is from Brownells, the whole assembly for $470 in .40. The price is what it is - I personally would never buy it, but if you break one and need a new one, that's the going rate. No need to even call Beretta as you can find out how much they cost.

So, what's the big idea behind calling Beretta in the first place? To try to get a slide for free after you broke it? That doesn't look bad for Beretta...

If the slides kept breaking while shooting, you'd have a case that it's a design flaw and you'd have a case that Beretta should replace them under warranty. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. So, accept the responsibility for what happened and change the title to: "I broke the slide while trying to install sights and Beretta didn't want to pay for my mistake." That would be much closer to what really happened.

Here is the disclosure for MGW tool from Top Gun Supply:

                            Gunsmith installation is recommended.

Here is the disclosure for the rear sight from MGW:

Note: It is recommended that all Beretta 80 Series Parts be installed by a qualified gunsmith.

                            Here is from Trijicon:

                            Professional installation recommended.

But, noooooo - those disclosures are for suckers and wimps. Real men crack their slides, then blame others...

i remember the first flat tire i changed when i was about 14 - had the right lug wrench and still stripped the very first nut because i had no technique or knowledge of how to correctly use it

thought if i had the right tool the rest was easy - dad finally came over and showed me how to do it right - having the right tool is just a piece of the puzzle
