There are many good 1911 mags & brands. Everyone will have a favorite. Perhaps start with telling us which 1911 you're getting.
-caliber
-size (Government (full-size), Commander (also has a full-size grip); and various smaller gripped models under various names)
-other info. Being specific can help(former) Glock and 1911 Armorer; LEO (now retired)Comment

My favorite magazines for my 1911s are the wilson combat 8 rounders. HOWEVER, I do really really like the MECGAR 1911 magazines, even better than Chip McCormick. (nothing against Chip McCormick, also good magazines)
That being said, I would rather have 2 MECGAR magazines than 1 Wilson Combat magazine. The MECGAR price is much lower too.Comment

I like Wilson 8 rds or Tripp research.Comment

I have a few of the Chip McCormick mags and haven't had any issues with them. If I were to buy some more I'd probably try the Mec-Gar to save a little bit of money.Comment

Wilson ETM are good mags. I primarily use either Tripp Research or CMC Powermags.NRA Benefactor Life Member

I have only thrown away 1911 mags.... other mags seem to last longer but the feed lips spread on my mags..... insert a loaded mag and everything is good.
When empty, the follower spreads the feed lips and they rub on the trigger bow.
I had a batch of 1911 mags that would not insert if empty as they hit on the trigger BOw. The bow looks fine.
So cheap mags work for com block but not the 1911
So chip McCormick or Wilson are what I purchased the last time around.
Capacity. - either 7 or 8 rounders
Base plate- drilled for the base plate pad is nice. But learning how to flatten- fully open your palm in the loading procedure prevents the pinch and also does not have the over insertion potential problem of the buffer pads.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
