I've had high end ammo fail a few times. Once, I could have easily lost an eye. It's about quality control not "new". In fact, I have a lot more confidence in my own QC than that of ANY "factory". I don't get people who can't understand that reloading can/will produce much better quality ammo than any "factory" can if done properly.

Yup, and even "factories" can and do make mistakes when loading ammo. Normally, it is caught but, sometimes it makes it into circulation.

Key word here is ... IF DONE PROPERLY! I have used Underwood ammo for my sw 500 magnum, 700 grain just for fun not once have I had problems or have I ever had any problems with my 50ae for my desert eagle from Hornady... so if people like to reload , that’s fine ... I just prefer to buy mine new , nothing wrong with that .

Yep, if done properly. Underwood most certainly produces great ammo. But is it Kaboom proof? You decide.



I doubt you'd be able to find an ammo manufacturer that has not had a kaboom or a recall.

As a tip....I always chose a powder that will fill a case.Makes it very difficult to double charge without catching it. Theres no bullseye in my power stash.

Or just use a reliable and repeatable process. In this case a properly operating progressive actually makes it HARDER to make this specific mistake. The alternative, a squib, might be about the same or a little easier in a progressive. I've used a lot of Unique, never had a problem. Just need to keep focused on the task and have a robust process.

The implication here that handloading is inherently dangerous is as absurd as that owning a handgun is as well (which anitgunners tout frequently). I use a single-stage press and inspect every round at every stage. No round makes it to the range that I have not checked and double checked. There only cure that I know of for stupidity or carelessness is often injury, and occasionally death. Would I fire ammo made by someone else? *&^% no! Oh, except the nice people at the factory....

If I had less costly guns like a Glock or S&W I would reload but not with my hi end guns

This is why I won't reload. I'm aware enough to know I'll blow my hand off.

Good point. However the 'know-it-alls' think they are safe and reload poorly. JMHO
