I've owned a Steyr rifle and it was a very well made gun. Any pro or con arguments regarding the company's striker fired handguns..?

I had the M40A1, but had to sell it to fund a larger safe. I loved it, but somone offered me a lot of money for it and I could not turn it down. I'm going to be getting the L9A1 in a couple months.

I have never shot one... and the ones I have seen have a funky sighting system by they look pretty cool...and felt good in the hand.

I don't like the trapezoidal sights or the look of gun much but I'd buy one if cheap. Some people really like them. I didn't shoot one much it probably takes some getting used to.

Almost bought one from a friend but a mutual friend beat me up it. They shoot really nice especially is you're shooting .357 Sig with it. Too bad they are double priced in Cali. Cost the same as your average Glock in a free state.

I had an S9A1, a M40A1 and a S40A1. I could hold the grip all day long in comfort. One problem I had was that the striker on the S40 wouldn't 100% reset all the time, so sometimes either the slide or the striker was out of battery and you would get a misfire.

Owned my Steyr's for almost 10 years - M9-A1's.
We have the Gen 1 pistols without the roll pin under the rear sight.

The ergonomics are amazing and allow for one of the highest grips possible. The extremely high beaver-tail cut, trigger guard undercut and grip angle are why this pistol handles the way it does. You just have to shoot one to understand this.

I (and most who shoot it) love the trigger... minimal take up to a nice crisp wall. No mushy break and the reset is very short. Mine breaks right at 4.5# and the wifes at 4.8#. I have north of 10k through mine and the wife has around 6k through hers. I hear the newer generation triggers are even better.

The trapezoid sights are very quick to acquire and work well within short distances. I have swapped out both sights however. I like the red FO up front and a blacked out U notch in back. The wife runs TruGlo TFX's and loves them. This is her bedside gun and also wears a Streamlight M6 on the rail.

Holsters have been easy for me to find. I have a couple BladeTechs and a couple Alien Gears. Both have worked great for IDPA. Amazon link.

Accessories can be tough to come by so if you are gear queer and like to modify your gun you might be disappointed. Ranger Point Precision in Texas however has some great aftermarket mods that I have been running. The brass weight and steel guide rod add almost 2 ounces to the front of the pistol which really balances nicely and helps soak up recoil. I also have the reduced power mag release spring for quicker mag changes. The above and some grip tape make this pistol my favorite to compete with.

I have attached a detailed image showing the distinct differences between the M9 and the M9-A1 versions.

The trapezoids centered naturally for me after a couple hours of slow fire. I find I can go back and forth between them and a regular 3-dot or all black rear notch and front bar.

See above. Mine is a very natural fit in my hand.

I have an m9a1, newest version. Love it, but it’s obviously not easy to find a large variety of holsters for it like the ubiquitous Glock.

I first bought a semi-universal holster from Cabelas. I upgraded last summer to horsehide with a soft suede lining, done by my wife's saddle maker.

That right there may be the straw that breaks the camels back! I would love to add the full sized "L" series to the safe. I can only imagine the larger sight picture and even more weight up front is amazing. It would be a great competition pistol for sure.

I wanted to add to my OP that I've been evaluating a pretty cool 3 spring recoil reduction system made by DPM Systems Technologies Ltd in Greece. A friend that I shoot IDPA and Steel with has the recoil reducing guide rod in his Sig 320rx & his H&K VP9. Doing a side by side (stock vs. the DPM) I was convinced to give one a try. While not offering the same weight up front as the Ranger Precision steel rod it does soak up the recoil pretty darn well. I only have one match with the new rod installed so time will tell.

Last add would be the customer service offered by Steyr USA in Bessemer, Al is top notch. Jeff Reece has been running the show out there for as long as I can remember and is great to deal with. I just wish they were closer so I could take the tour
