I have a friend who has been living in Oregon for the past couple of years and is now moving back to CA (family, work) he has several handguns (NO AW features, no mags over 10 rounds) that he wants to bring back with him. Can he ship them over here to himself or does he have to drive it back?

Best advice, don't come back.
If a fool dive them back and report to his new masters.

By law you can ship guns to yourself across State lines. But good luck finding a carrier that will do it. Most of their tariffs are more restrictive than Federal regs and few will handle firearms unless shipment is between FFLs.

If he's middle aged, white, doesn't drive a hoopty, and has current tags, why not just cruise down with them in his personally owned vee-hicle?I have a friend who has been living in Oregon for the past couple of years and is now moving back to CA (family, work) he has several handguns (NO AW features, no mags over 10 rounds) that he wants to bring back with him. Yeah, just drive it back and register it with the DOJ for new residents.Comment

He should buy as many off roster handguns as he can afford before moving to CA. If he ever gets bored of them, he can make his money back and then some.my Benitez goes to 11Comment

I get that everyone is saying don't move back but after completing school he stayed in Oregon for a few additional years but got a new job in LA and all of his family is here anyway. I've told him about the asinine gun laws here in CA and he is aware of the roster so he'd rather avoid a 15 hour drive so wanted to see if he could mail them back. I was reading the ATF page that tundraboomer linked and that makes perfect sense but are there any additional CA DOJ stipulations in regards to mailing yourself a firearm?Comment

But as already noted, getting a common carrier (UPS, FedEx) to accept the shipment might be an issue.
Non FFLs cannot use USPS for handguns.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
