Decided to leave the gun at home in the end. I have a couple of coworkers with me and decided if TSA starts hassling me, just don't need them there watching it. Also, the theft of the pistol was also in the back of my mind.
I do have a CCW and truthfully, LA seems like the ideal place to carry since I like to walk around at night but since I am there for work, I don't know, I saw some downsides. Next time I'll drive and bring an armory [emoji12]

Dude its a super simple process.Decided to leave the gun at home in the end. I have a couple of coworkers with me and decided if TSA starts hassling me, just don't need them there watching it. Also, the theft of the pistol was also in the back of my mind.

You just declare the pistol and they tag it.
Just put it in a pelican case inside your suitcase.Comment

ok, next time. Even found a Pelican case that is the perfect size. Came with an Acog I bought a few years ago.
Guess I still have my NY paranoia with me. In NY, if you try to fly a gun, even in a checked in bag, you are asking for trouble. At least that's the way it was when I grew up there. Not sure how it is now. I would never try to fly a pistol into JFK.

I flew out of either OAK or SFO to Orlando and back with no hiccups.Comment

What is a CCW permit for a particular area of the state??? Aside from an limited, employment-related permit, a CCW permit is for the entire state, not just a particular area.
I know the OP decided to not bring it with him, but the very reason to bring a permitted weapon to a place like LA is to carry it. Leaving your defensive weapon, for which you have a carry permit, at home is hardly the best course of action.Last edited by Abu Riyah; 10-30-2017, 5:48 PM.

My assumption is that the OP is from out of state. California Does Not Honor Permits from these States:What is a CCW permit for a particular area of the state??? Aside from an limited, employment-related permit, a CCW permit is for the entire state, not just a particular area.

Comma was in the wrong place....What is a CCW permit for a particular area of the state??? Aside from an limited, employment-related permit, a CCW permit is for the entire state, not just a particular area.

Unless you have a CCW, for that particular area of California or are a LEO....
I would agree... if you don't have a CCW, and have no plans to actually shoot it, taking it on a trip to LA would be as silly as me taking my desktop computer on a weekend fishing trip to Bishop.- Rich

Fixed.
California honors NO out of state permits.
Regardless, you were more correct the first time.... but it was worded badly.
"Unless you have a CCW permit for that particular area of California,"
Any California-issued permit is valid anywhere in California. There is no such thing as a permit for "a particular area of California"
On another note regarding the comments about using the Glock (or other) factory container, that could be seen as not compliant depending on the TSA inspector (and may not be the smartest thing to do.)
It meets the requirement for a secure, locked container, BUT the container must not have an indication that it contains a firearm.
Any hood rat working the ramp is going to recognize a Glock or other factory pistol case from a mile away.
Seriously best to go with a nondescript Pelican.
Yes, Pelican screams "VALUABLE", but it is not apparent from the outside whether it is a gun, photo, medical, or sales equipment.
Couple of good examples here:
These smaller Pelican cases are not expensive, but you can get perfectly suitable and less expensive alternatives from Seahorse.
I got a really nice box for my scuba O2 analyzer at Orvac electronics in Fullerton cheaper than a similar-sized electronics project box.- Rich

They never bothered my Kahr CW9 which is cheaper than a Glock.
btw, I declared it when I checked in in at the counter, was in a locked steel case strapped down inside my luggage. They had me fill out a form then put a paper on top of the gun vault showing that is was declared. Did not see any evidence that TSA had gone through the luggage, but they may have. And no the lock on that case is not a TSA lock, it is not supposed to be. United was clear that on I must be able to open the gun vault.
The case was a simple Bulldog security gun vault normally used for under-seat weapon storage in a car.My God, even the Conservatives are liberal in the messed up StateComment
