Cerakote it. I wouldn't even do that, there's nothing wrong with it as is, but if you gotta do something and that $300.00 is just burning a hole in your pocket, a paint job is probably the only way to stay in your budget.
If it's a good shooter, who really cares about the looks. No idiot scratch, just honest wear,
I"d spend the money on a BTGS and bobbed hammer, maybe a trigger with an overtravel screw. Well under your $300.00, and it's going to perform better vs. just looking better.
But that's me. -
Great idea. I wanna get rid of the rattle can paint job on the slide. The last owner did it and I totally hate it.Cerakote it. I think I may attempt to do a battle worn Duracoat job on it, that's only about 75 bucks. The hammer idea, I like.Comment

That's a beautiful pistol. You could... Polish the flats and hard chrome the beast... Or Cerakote it whatever color/design your heart desires...

I would at least put some grips on it.

It is not really my place, but I would also upgrade a couple of parts (beavertail being one of them).
Sights would be the most obvious other.Hobbies: bla, bla, bla... Bought a Mosin Nagant... Guns, Guns, Guns...Comment

Thanks for the input. I've got the sights off.
I will make an attempt to chemically remove the finish. If that works, I will repaint the pistol battle worn with FDE and black Duracoat.
If it looks good, I'll move forward with new sights, wilson C beaver tail, a new thumb lever safety and hammer. New springs too.
I'd still be under 300 I believe.

I'm going with battle worn as the slide has some serious dings. It's fully functional though.Comment

First off, you should really learn how to resize images either with paintbrush or imgur. It really isn't hard.
I'd leave it as is. I sure as hell wouldn't ceracote a 1911. Probably would fit a lightweight trigger, as the painted one is uggo.

Pardon the image size. I'm working off my phone and the option is not available.
The gun landed on a my lap years ago. Getting rid of the rattle can paint on the slide paint is my number one priority. Due to the condition of the metal, there is no rebluing or parkerization option.
Cerakote will replace the paint. Thatll stop the stares I get when I pull it out at the range. It seriously looks like a bad movie prop. With a little TLC, I think I'd be happy to own it and will serve well as a truck gun vs. the junky 380 I have there.Last edited by MarikinaMan; 09-16-2017, 7:50 PM.Comment

I see your point about the paint improvement. Thought of OD green?
Or, I have seen some nice work done with Brownells alumihude that looks close to grey park. http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-to...-prod1117.aspxComment
