LCP, yes, LC380, not so much.

The LC380 is the same size as the LC9 (Turners even sells a conversion kit, which consists of an LC9 slide and barrel), which in turn is the same size as the Shield... May as well go with the LC9 or Shield and have the 9mm.

The LCP, true sub-compact, is a very nice pocket gun if you're okay with the long trigger pull.

I really like my Kahr P380, but it is picky on ammo. I's broken in to the point that I've not had any problems with PMC FMJ in many hundreds of rounds, but every now and then it won't go fully into battery on Speer GDJHP.

i should say that i'm in Vegas and my intent is to find something compact, but functional, and actually able to stop a baddie.....and ultimately i'm going to apply for a CCW. yeah, i should probably post in NevadaShooters.com but i'm so used to calguns since i posted here for 15 years i think and have only been in LV for2 years....but...i'm still curios if anyone has hands on experience with these. i've read good reviews on gun magazines but reviews they seems like they would give a donkey turd a good review.

i like that they ave striker-fire but i saw a still frame of i think a .40 and it looked dangerous for that size of pistol, and the sub $300 price tag makes me wonder about quality.
I have the SR40c. It has become my primary carry gun. Astonishing lack of recoil, very reliable.

somthing reliable, good quality, big enough caliber to stop mr. baddie if he should ever appear. i was looking at the SW shield and the springfield xds......and the kimber micro.

        my concerns.....
9mm keeps going.....and going.....and going. i wouldn't want to accidentally hit an innocent person b/c of this
i'm not sure if .380 has enough stopping power, but then again i've never shot it.
i'm really an M1-garand fanatic.....have 12..........so this will be my first handgun
        IMO...

If you are not wanting a pocketgun, then skip pistols chambered in .380ACP or smaller.

Subcompacts and larger size pistols should start at pistols chambered in 9x19mm and larger.

Using 9x19mm bonded JHP cartridges will reduce the chance of overpenetration.

The LCPs I've handled have always had nicer triggers than the S&W bodyguards and have felt better made than the Keltec P3ATs. The primary complaint about the LC9 was the heavy DA and longer reset (fine if you are used to revolvers, not so much if you're used to striker fired guns), with the LC9S, that problem was supposed to be solved.

The improvements made in the LCP II and the LC9S are both worth looking at. The only caveat I believe for the LC9 is that it can't be fed a steady diet of +P ammo according to the manual.

Other than that, buy em and use the money saved to get more ammo and practice.
I found the trigger to be so heavy on those guns, that my finger hurt after a few mags.

I'm a pretty big guy, and haven't had that problem on any other gun I've shot.

I shot a friends LCP, must have been a first generation. Not a comfortable range gun for sure. But would get the job done as self defense weapon.

If that's your only concern, I would highly recommend a 9mm for the following reasons. A hit is a hit and a miss will be a miss. 9mm is cheaper to shoot, easier to acquire and has many more loads in the self defense type loads. The fact that it'll be easier and cheaper to feed, means you'll have more range time to practice drawing from the holster and shooting, double taps (controlled pairs), and assorted malfunction drills.

As you get more comfortable and more confident in your abilities, you'll find that you shoot the 9mm faster than the 380s, you'll be more accurate and then you won't mind the trade off in concealment for firepower.

Seriously do yourself a favor and check out the LC9, shield, xds, kahr arms cm/cw9, nano,EMP etc and whatever single stack floats your boat. Go out try them out, see which one handles best for you and get that.

IMO Ruger represents a solid value at the price point, as does S&W.

Please articulate and explain to us this opinion of yours, or are you just too good to shoot Rugers?
