I am toying with the idea of getting one of these pistols, I was wondering, do these guys come with the old wrap around Pachmeyr grips, or those nice new G10 grips? It seems like the version with the G10 grips is all that Springfield is making now. Or are they putting the rubber grips on the California versions still? I am assuming the ones with the rubber grips do not have checkering underneath on the front.

The wrap around grips make the gun safer, that's why it's on the CA roster. G10 grips make it more evil and assaulty..... so thAts why you can't get those.

I hope it's checkered under that grip because I'm going to pull that rubber off and put some of those assaulty G10s on it. And a ten round Wilson mag just to evil it up a bit more.

Don't think it has checkering

They come with the wrap around rubber grip and there's no checkering. Even then, SA MCO's are still very nice handguns.

I dig the gray color on the newer versions.

Hmmm...get the trigger area undercut, add some 30-40 LPI checkering and refinish the entire pistol in Black T. With a drop leg holster and a Surefire X3000, I can operate in my house!!!

I can confirm there's no checkering underneath the grip. I removed it to put a thin layer of oil because of the horror stories of rust developing under grips over time.

Love the grips, though, and prefer them to the hogue version I considered.

Without the front checkering I'd be hesitant to put G10 grips on there, and I've heard of aftermarket checkering being pretty pricey.

Have had one of these for about 8 years. EXCELLENT pistol. Just all around good.

Very accurate. Super tight. Feeds everything. Easily my favorite handgun.

The rubber grips are very functional too.

I have not had the fortune of acquiring one of these yet, but my standard parkerized Springfield Loaded 1911 is just a great pistol all the way around. No doubt the MC will be more of the same.

Aside from grips is there any difference between the California model and the America model? I can't see why California would care about the grip material.

Well, the CA version have the ILS still. The Free USA version no longer has it. But that can be easily fixed.

+1 on the smooth front strap. I wanted to send it to SA to checker it but when they came back from their hiatus, they completely minimized their work offered. So irritated!

Integral locking system. Located in the mainspring housing and prevents the gun from being cocked when activated.
