Single Stack 45, Not DA/SA, Not 1911

Thanks all. I didn't realize the XD's were single stack so will check that out. Also didn't know about the Kahr magazine trick - that is pretty cool, especially since Kahr doesn't give away their magazines for free...
Definitely gives me a few to rent along the way. Maybe I'll run to Yuma sometime and try the M&P.
As for 1911, I'd like to eventually pick one up in 9mm. Had a 45 RIA; great gun and probably shouldn't have let that one go!Jesus Saves!Comment

The XD is double stack. The XDs is single stack. The 's' at the end means single stack. They are off roster, available in 3.3 and 4 inch barrel length, and have various extended mag options to give you more handle, because by default they are small and the flush mag is only 5 rounds.Last edited by SkyHawk; 08-17-2017, 9:55 PM.Comment

Does Hi Point make a .45?Comment

I know, it is confusing and easily assumed to be plural XD, especially if you are not familiar with them. That's why I wanted to clarify
I guess Springfield has taken to calling it XD-S in print, but the slide is marked XD with a small supserscript 's'.Comment

Yes, I think they do! Straight blowback (
) striker fired single stack.
Making fun of Hi-Points and their owners have become a bit of a pastime in the firearms community thanks to the poor reputation that the pistols have gained for an unknown reason.I had an opportunity to find out for myself if the Hi-Point pistol really does suck or we are elitest jerks when we make fun of those who own Hi-Points.I came into possession of a Hi-Point JHP chambered in .45 ACP a while back and finally decided it was time to review the chunky pistol.Looking over the specs on the Hi-Point website the JHP .45 seems to have a lot going for it on paper, does this carry over to the real world?Barrel length: 4.5″Overall length: 7.75″Weight: 35 oz.Frame: High-impact polymerFinish: Black powder coat with polished sidesCapacity: 9-shot magazineSights: 3-dots, fully-adjustable rear sightAll Hi-Point handguns feature:

Well, I thought they were doubles and a buddy of mine from PHX stopped by not too long ago with his XD 45. I was surprised at how much better the grip felt over the 45 Glocks - I didn't think it was too much bigger than my G17, at least in how it felt. So that made me wonder if they were indeed single stack... until I looked at your post again.
But... that makes me think I should at least rent an XD at the range and see how it feels. I didn't necessarily like the 9mm but that doesn't mean the 45 will be the same.
Cortelli - I hear you. I was tempted to pick up a CW9 at Turner's - the bronze one is on sale for $299, plus you can get the free mag as well. Of course, if I buy an XD in the next few weeks I could scoop up four mags, holster, and whatever else in the in SA bundle....Jesus Saves!Comment

The only one I could think of was the Kahr too. If you were looking at RIA 1911's you can do a lot worse than the 1911 FS Match - great gun and affordable. You mentioned USP's and others that don't meet your specs... I don't know why you don't want a DA/SA, but I shoot my USP Expert along side my Glock 41 and have no issues going back and forth same session. Both have perfectly manageable triggers and are very accurate. Throwing in a stock DA/SA CZ SP-01 takes more concentration for me. Like the G41 though, the USP has a large grip.Comment

We forgot to mention the M&P Shield 45. And it is definitely worth a look. Doh! Striker gun. They have a performance center version too, that is ported. Would be hard to find a Shield 45 PPT in CA, but they are out there.Comment
