    Single Stack 45, Not DA/SA, Not 1911

I sold my 45 Glocks as the double stack was simply not as good a fit as I would like for my hands (and didn't particularly like the G36). I would eventually like to have a 45 in the safe again. Not looking for a carry gun, so doesn't need to be compact or particularly light. Would rather have a striker fired gun with no safety, but a SAO would be ok too. Since it's not a carry gun, I guess I could live with a striker fired gun with external safety too. Heck... I'd take a DAO as well - just don't want DA/SA.

I've done some reading here and looks like P220 can possibly be had in SA, HK USP, CZ97B are possibles. Kahr maybe, but I think that's a little small for what I need.

I am not interested right now in looking off-roster; any other options I'm missing? Thanks in advance, appreciate the help in narrowing down the field.

The USP and 97B use double stack magazines (as far as I know).

The older Taurus PT-945 pistols use single stack magazines, but they are hammer fired.

Your best bet is to try and locate a P220 SAO.

Cz97 is also double stack. SA XDs is single stack striker, does not have a thumb safety but does have grip safety. Kahr PM45 is DAO passive striker single stack. And a P220, while single stack, is still a gun with a large grip.

S&W M&P 45 is single stack. I like their mags a lot. I know it's off roster but can find them on here.

This was my first thought as well.

I saw a 9mm today in the "LEO only" section of my favorite LGS...

                    Stupid roster.

Bow to the inevitable...get a 1911. There is a reason why they are so popular.

The M&P 45 is double stack, or at least stack and a half. You don't get 10 rounds of 45 into a flush fit single stack magazine. Don't take my word for it though. Line up ten 45 rounds on the table then set your magazine next to the stack. The single stack of ammo will be taller than your magazine. The only way they all go into the mag is in a staggered column.

The double-stack, 10-round magazine doesn’t cause the grip to be bulky; rather, it’s quite comfortable.

                            Good luck.

You may as well be looking for a unicorn.

Try a S&W 945. S/A, with thumb safety. But about twice the price of a decent 1911

Sigs are large. CZ is large and heavy. M&P is smaller. XD is smaller. Both (M&P and XD are still large, just smaller than Sig and CZ). Old S&W guns are going for stupid high prices, way more than a gun that you can't get parts for is worth.

Para makes a double stack 1911 that has a nice grip. Not small, but it feels good in the hand for my medium to small hands. Same for the STI variants. All S/A with thumb safety.

And there's always S&W 625 revolvers. No S/A, no safety, decent small grip.

Looks like I'm on an XDs pimpin mission lately, but in the 4" version and using the extended grip section on the longer mags, it's basically a striker Commander sized gun. For me, the ergos are 98% of the 1911, and again it's very sleek and handy. I like the big-toothed grip texture too.
I meant, it is my opinion that...
