    Human error or material defect?

I purchased a 5.5mm front fiber sight ( not from CGW) for my CZ P-07, after I installed it , for some unknown idea, I wanted to take it off, so I used a nylon punch to remove the front sight. Hmmm, I noticed the front sight was bent upward around set screw area, so I was in a WTF moment, because I had no such issue to install and remove the CGW fiber front sight.

From the photo, you can see the sight is bent upward around the set screw because it has less material around it, so I was wondering if this was a human error or a material defect ?

Like you said, the sight is weakest right there. You probably should have tapped it out by putting the punch on the backside of the front tower. Of course hindsight is 20/20. Maybe this will help someone, I certainly learned something.

It does seem like the sight would benefit from being a tad wider, to prevent this. Is it steel, and was the dovetail a real tight fit?

i think you are right, I should tap the front tower, not the back. When I tap it into the slide , it was ok fit, not to tight.

$36 gone, and I need to order a new one.

        Can you bend it back?
Use the correct size drill bit to make sure it's aligned correctly?

I think it is hard to bend back without the hammer tap and the sight need to be tightly secured. such as slide it back to the slide, then use hammer tap down. My concern is the sight may be bent downward or crack at the setscrew area

Is it possible that it got bent as you were removing it?

as you can see from the photo, the set screw region is a weak hinge, so when i tap it, it get bent.

Yup, user error. At least you do things yourself and learn as you go as opposed to paying someone else to do everything for you.

How hard did you hammer the sight in during your initial installation? if it was really hard, then some filing would have helped for a proper fitting which may have resulted in a easier removal.

This is why I used a drill press for pushing pins and sights in and out of a firearm and avoid hammering if possible. Much more controlled motion and you can catch a problem at first start.

You did it when you hit it with the punch while taking off the sight.

How tight was the sight going in? Did you fit the sight by removing material from the bottem until it would install half way by hand? This is the first one i have seen bend like that. It makes me think that it may have been too tight in the dovetail.

Good pictures, sorry that your sight got damaged. In the realm of gunsmithing mistakes this was a cheep one.

Good idea. Does it give you enough leverage?

I do have 12 ton hydraulic press if needed.

                              Yes enough leverage.
12 to hydraulic press might be needed for the hammer strut pin for sure.
