STI Problem

So, when you were shooting the gun at the range, and the slide locked back on empty, you took the magazine out and the slide returned to battery on its own?

Thst would not be a flawless working gun then.

Can you manually lock the slide back, Not using the magazine? And show a picture of how high the slide stop goes when you do that.

yes I can. with slide lock all the way up.

Then I would look at the magazine follower first and then the slide stop for issues.

It'll be easier to assess the problem if you provide history of the gun. Is it BNIB when you got it out of jail or you bought it used with (?) rounds through it. Is the magazine or follower brand new? It seems the follower is not exerting enough upward force on the slide stop's tab. The question is why? Could be just a simple follower replacement. Sometimes the top coil of spring needs a little bending.

that was one of my thought also. I have 2 new mag arriving next to test if it is the mag. I know others has switch out the follower. But I have notice that the base is epoxy in. How in the world can I remove it?

OK it makes more sense now. Your mag was epoxied to comply with the 10 round California law. So it's used and who know how many rounds through it. My advise is to wait on the new mags before resuming anymore test. It seems your base pad is of the OEM plastic kind. Not sure where it is epoxied, but my guess is you'll need a new follower, base pad, retainer and some epoxy to fix your mag. Heat will undo epoxy bond, but it also melts plastic. Easy on the heat as there is some temper on the mag body and the spring.

Problem solve. My new Dawson sti mag came in.
No problem racking the slide back and lock.

no.. at the range on after the last round. I eject mag. the slide will close.

That can happen if the mag follower slips up next to the slide lock. It will push the lock up enough to lock the slide, but pull it back down again when the mag is released.

majorsten.. with the new mags it work perfect. with the 140mm I am going to change the follower and spring to see if it makes a different.

I have an STI that exhibited the same problem. I discovered that the followers were binding in the magazine before they rose up far enough to push the slide stop all the way up. I solved it by sanding the sides of the followers so that they would go all the way up to the feed lips.
