In collectors world NIB could mean : A factory new firearm, without any damage, properly stored, unfired since factory and never sold retail. OR. The same , except was sold retail and simply put away. For example , I have a new in the box G19 Gen2 that I bought new and just left it in the safe. It is indeed a NEW gun that was sold retail. A handgun that WAS test fired by the manufacturer and then cleaned and shipped is still new in the box .Last edited by ap3572001; 07-15-2017, 6:27 PM.Comment

Not required anymore - another .gov program that everyone but the state could see would be useless and fail.
After NIB I go to the % scale - 100% used gun but perfect
The NRA Museums are home to the finest firearms collection in the world. The National Firearms Museum, at the NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, details and examines the nearly 700-year history of firearms with a special emphasis on firearms, freedom, and the American experience. The National Sporting Arms Museum, at the Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, Missouri, at explores and exhibits the historical development of hunting arms in America from the earliest explorers to modern day, with a focus on hunting, conservation, and freedom.Comment

NIB (New in Box) should mean a brand new unfired gun that has never been DROSed. I usually put "purchased new and never used/shot" instead of NIB.
The seller might have meant "Not in Box" instead of "New in Box."
This brings up a pet peeve of mine about people posting "never used" when selling something. This happens a lot on eBay. The person will post an item and claim it has "never been used," or "I never used it." They will usually include a blurry picture. When you win the auction and get the part, you can clearly see it is very worn. When questioning the seller, they claim they bought it that way and never used it.

In the United States a person's expertise on a subject is inversely proportional to their knowledge of the subject: The less they know about something, the more they become an expert on it.

So that's where all the extra money goes.NIB to me should mean unfired and it includes the original case and all the swag it comes with, even the NRA and safety brochures, just the way it would have been when you pick it from the store. The original receipt would be a bonus. Anything less is LNIB
Yup, especially for certain firearms from companies like Larue, Krebs, Tanfoglio etc. Those cases can sometimes be quite fancy:
