I'd never try the .380 without some kind of extended beavertail.

It's fine as is, just don't go over 100 rds without first putting a bandaid on your thumb knuckle to cushion the rubbing of the nubby beaver tail.

For me it's the two lines I get from the slide bite and a high grip that necessitates a bigger beavertail.

The nubby beavertail and the thumb knuckle thing have nothing to do with my earlier post.

I've never gotten a slide bite from this gun or any other gun, and I have big hands.

It's just the Walther PPK. I have a Russian Makarov and a CZ 82 and they don't give me slide bite either.

Neither James Bond nor Hitler used a PPK/S. Hitler used a PP and Bond used a PPK. Both were in 7.65mm (.32ACP) by the way. The PPK/S was created to get around the Gun Control Act of 1968. Before handguns could be imported they had to meet certain criteria under the GCA. The PPK's grip was a little too short under the rules. By mounting the PPK's shorter barrel and slide on the PP's longer grip frame the PPK/S was created. The PPK/S's longer grip allowed it to be imported.

PPK upper left, PP upper center, PPK/S lower left.
                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I always thought .380 was a bit harsh for this gun. In 7.65mm it is much more pleasant to shoot. I have a 60's era PP in 7.65 that was finished and roll marked by Walther. It's one of my favorite guns in my collection to bring out for new shooters so they can feel James Bond-ish for a couple mags. I have a family member who has a pre-war PP in 22LR. Now that is one fun gun to shoot!

I have a PPK/S "Made in West Germany" from 1979. I put the only rounds through it outside the factory. At first it was cool, but I quickly grew tired of shooting it. Useless sights, snappy as hell for a .380, and slide bite necessitates an awkward grip (thumb down) or a Band-Aid. Too heavy (and too valuable) for carry.
I cleaned it up real good and left it in the open box in my safe. I have thought about selling it, but it is just too damn sexy. Like Scarlett Johansson in a sea of Whoopi Goldbergs.

Nice pocket gun and like that it has external safety, however the double action trigger pull is VERY heavy.

They're nice nostalgic pistols. A G42 is a superior option nowadays, having owned both.

I have a Manurhin PPK/S (same gun, long story) that only likes ball ammo. It shoots well but won't reliably feed HP ammo. The newer S&W PPK/s is supposedly designed to feed HP rounds.

It is a very good little pistol. The quality of the specimen I have puts a smile on my face.

It's kind of old fashioned for a small .380. A little on the heavy side, it will bite you if you choke up on it too much, and it is snappy. But its a really nice little pistol.

sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.
