Walther ppk/s?

I have the opportunity to buy one but not sure if i should buy it since its a blow back design. Are they really that great guns? I see a lot members fighting to buy them here in calguns, is it because James Bond carried one? Or because Hitler killed himself with one? Please help. Its a true walther no S&W markings. Not sure of manufacturing date. Ill get to googling now.

Great little gun, my wife has one and it's her favorite. Never had a problem with it. Before you buy maybe like naeco81 said and check out Walther forums.

It depends on a lot. Finish and caliber being pretty important as well as importer, where & when made, import marks or lack thereof, etc. Need a lot more info to say anything about price.

And straight blowback guns are popular because they are very accurate, as the barrel is fixed to the frame and doesn't float or move.

If it is a PPK/S then it was made after 1968.

PPK's are great guns, as long as you don't expect it to be a Glock - different tools designed at different times.

I'd totally buy it.

I just recently picked one up. I fired it for the first time last weekend. I was accurate with it from the first shot. Not super comfortable to fire all day at the range, but I have other guns for that. Sights are small, but work well. Be careful of "slide bite". I didn't get bad, but came close a few times as my hands are on the larger side.

Magazines are on the pricey side. Mine came with one (with the pinky rest). I ordered one more with pinky rest, and the flat bottom one. I bought Walther brand ones, I see that MecGar has some available. My walther branded ones fed three different brands of ball ammo just fine. (magtech, fiochi, and sellier and beloit). I have Federal HST for it which I will try for my carry ammo.

I will be adding it to my permit, and once I put enough carry ammo down range, I may start carrying it occasionally. It is a little smaller (not by a lot), but heavier than my 9mm shield that I do carry daily.

Plus I am a James Bond fan, so there is that, but even without the 007 affiliation I think it is a great gun. Excellent build quality. Mine is a Interterms stainless model from about 1992.

I have one. I thought it would be a lot better than my AMT 380 back up.

Despite having Bianchi wrap around grips, it still bites quite a bit when fired.

All my pocket 380s bite the web between my thumb and index finger.

I have them coz the carry really well.

I just sold a S&W model. This was the first gun I ever carried. It was reliable, but I didn't shoot it very well compared to other pistols. This is probably because I have eye issues and I need big, visible sights, not the small ones that come on all the PPK/S variants. I couldn't find any aftermarket sights, probably because most owners don't want to change the original look. I currently carry a Glock 42 380 that I'm very satisfied with (XS Big Dot sights and Taran Tactical +1 baseplates to make it a 3-finger grip). The PPK/S was about the same size but felt twice as heavy and also felt like twice the recoil.

Yeah i hear u, heard its 23oz or so. I have an Lcp 2 that i can't ever imagine carrying something else. Im sure it'll just be a safe queen but i dont mind i have a few of those. I decided to buy it, im going to meet him tomorrow. Ill post pictures tomorrow. Thanks to the members that took time to chime in, your the best.

I must admit, im buying it for $400 with case and 2 mags. I see they go for more out in California but im in a free state now. Im guessing they go for that out here. I got the serial number already, where can i check the year it was made?

I collected PPKs for 15 yrs back in the 80s ....had 60 of them at one time....
Now I have Glock 42....

Here's a couple of pics of mine. It's a keeper. It's got the S&W stamp on it. The first time I shot it I put 200 rounds thru it and the little beavertail gave me a good blister near my thumb knuckle.
